BlackBay Chrono vs Speedmaster Moonwatch

Which watch has a better design?

I voted for the BB Chrono only because I own it. My issue is I’ve always wanted to acquire the Moonwatch but I seem to always end up with something else. I say you can’t go wrong with either one.

I am not a chronograph guy. I don't own a chronograph, so I think I'm pretty unbiased to vote here and speak on this.

The Moonwatch wins and it's not due to history or provenance, or any of that garbage. It wins on legibility. Your watch has white hands on a (mostly) white dial. I have to imagine that's hard to tell the time at a quick glance. It also has a date, which I love, but most people find off putting on a watch, especially on a chronograph (and it's almost impossible on a tri-register chronograph unless you are Zenith and shoehorn it in at 4:30). The Speedy is white hands on a black dial. Arguably the most legible watch of all time. And it doesn't have a date to further clutter the dial that is already pretty cluttered.

The Speedmaster is iconic for multiple reasons and functionality is one of those reasons.

I just think the speedie is the better looking watch with the better movement (3861 at least) better design language.  All around I just prefer it

BB needs a diet 😅

The BB is beautiful but way too big for me. Put it in the BB Pro case and I’m in. The Speedy is actually more like a 40mm watch if you don’t include the extended crown guards and only about 12mm thick without the crystal. Also, it's an icon.

This is a tough one. The Speedy is a classic design, but overall it is a boring dial with little finishing. The execution is under the hood.

The BB Chrono has more finishing and details dial-wise. The movement is not as tested as the Speedy. One either likes or dislikes the snowflake hands. Tudor is much beefier than the Speedy, but has a better bracelet than most Speedy's due to the tapering.

Overall edge to the Speedy just for standing the test of time design-wise.

Purely on design, I'd say Speedmaster. However, if I were to own one I'd rather have the Tudor.

I'm lucky enough to own the Speedmaster (3861 Sapphire Sandwich) and also a couple of Black Bays (GMT & Harrods Special Edition). I appreciate my Black Bays aren't Chrono's, but they are similar in terms of the case and bracelet and feel on the wrist. They are all great watches, but I wear my Omega more often.

In my opinion the Omega is superior, but also much more expensive, which has to be a consideration in terms of affordability.

If I owned neither and could afford the Omega, it would have to be the Speedmaster. I think if I bought the Tudor I would end up regretting not opting for the Omega.
