As many here, apparently, I'm also extremely lucky since my wife not only supports the hobby (as she does with everything else, in fact) but also openly listens whenever I start talking about it, even if it's not something that genuinely interests her.

When it's all about showing off (e.g. photo in front of a luxury car's steering wheel, as others have already said);
"Tool watch" - to me, only a smartwatch or a G-Shock are worthy of that title these days, not a $3K Tudor;

The craze about automatic watches' precision - if it's precision you want, why on Earth would you buy an automatic watch? Get a quartz or, better yet, check the time on your phone.
I disagree. If that's the case, then no microbrand would exist. Every brand has to start somewhere.
As far as I know, most of Merkur watches are not homages/copies, they own what they are as OP stated. I think they can be seen as a microbrand that happens to sell on AliExpress, which is the largest Chinese marketplace. Makes sense to me.
Lastly, FWIW, I've had my fair share of homages from San Martin and Pagani and, setting aside the questionable ethics of their business model, the watches themselves are far, far better built and finished than anything you'd find close to their price range from horologically important manufacturers.
