Controversial take: 38mm is too small for a man's watch!

What do you think ?

Not too small.

·

Not! 😉

I think that I can safely disregard your opinions.

For you? Sure.

For millions of others? No

·

Truth be told, I have 36mm and 38mm and I find them small, I like them but that's why I don't use them as much, I prefer 40mm to 45mm

·

Depends on your wrist size. On my wrist 38 looks like a ladys watch.

·

So the wearers of the original Dirty Dozen field watches weren't men?

·

The man on the TV says you're not a man unless you wear (he said rock) a watch that's 50mm or more and at least 20mm thick.

He was so confident in his opinion that he was selling one for 90% off MSRP.

·

What ever YOUR wrist likes wear it. Remember there are those on Hodinkee if I miss spelled it who cares and youtubers want to imprint their opinions in small minds.

Enjoy your watch!

Cheers

I have a big wrist and wear a 33mm watch and rarely go above 36mm. comfort before style everyday. Size is a personal choice not a fashion rule. 32mm watches were worn by our ancestors and no one cared.

·

38mm is ok but honestly prefer watches 40-44 or even 46mm. It is my preference, you can wear whatever size watch suits you, in fact my wife who is 5ft 2inches nice slender wrist wears a 36mm Ballon Bleu, often wears my BBTudor ceramic which is 41mm. There is far too much debate about size of case sizes, whatever happened for concern about movements, complications?

·

Maybe for you, but not for the millions of other watch collectors.

·

Not for me !!! :D

During the war watches were all small. You would be hard pressed to find a large watch widely used in the 40's. The latest Hamilton is a modern reinterpretation

·

Tell that my 34mm watches...

The only thing I really dislike is a huge overhang of the lugs. That always looks involuntary comical.

Thats the thing that this is over 90 years ago! But hey it is just my own taste and everyone should wear what they like!

I know. The largest at the time were the Fliegers and they were worn by actual flying staff, not as a fashion statement.

Most any blanket statement about watches, other than they all tell time, is ignorant at best. There are men with 15mm wrists and a 38mm might be the biggest size that fits them. It's far more reasonable to say, "I don't buy watches less than 39mm because anything smaller looks funny on my wrist."

I totally agree! This was just my opinion after trying some 36 and 38 mm watches at my AD. Maybe it is also due that I am not used to those sizes

What watch? What type if watch? How is the watch design? A 42mm field watch may look weird but so may a 38mm diver. Watches should be relative to its style and purpose.

I agree on this point 👍

No please dont.

·

So again to anyone taking this personally for whatever reason 😅 this is my opinion.

·

It all depends on the size of the man and what he’s into. I have a 7ish inch wrist and I find 38mm watches to be on the larger side if they don’t have a pronounced/functional bezel

·

Anything smaller than 40mm is a woman’s watch on my wrist. There are so many watches that I would love to buy but are just too small for me. 42 mm is my sweet spot.

Right there with you man! All just piss taking 😄

This is the answer to a question where we have not been given enough information. A 38mm dive watch is too small if you have a 9 inch wrist, but is probably too big if you want a dress watch and have a 6 inch wrist. As a general rule for my wrist dress watch 34-38mm sport watch 38-40mm dive watch 40mm +

Buy the watch, not the size. The only Rolex I like only comes in 34/36mm, my kinetic tuna is only available in 48mm.
