Hamilton Khaki Pilot Pioneer on a vintage strap

This is undoubtedly my favorite recent release from Hamilton. I know many will harp on the mineral crystal, but after owning and selling the khaki field mechanical, this one has a certain charm and character that the utilitarian khaki didn't have. The textured dial, tonneau case and overall finishing are well above the Khaki field IMO and this watch certainly has that X factor.

Is it worth almost double the cost? On paper no, but after collecting for the last 5 years I've learned that buying for specs really limits your scope. Sometimes the feeling that a watch gives you is much more important than the redundant screw down crown/sapphire/ 200M water resistance trio we often chase.

In keeping with the history behind this reference, it's been paired with a custom strap from Steveostraps made from a vintage military parachute kit. It frays in all the right ways and adds even more character to a piece that is already oozing with it.

Wow, that strap really adds serious vintage wartime character to the piece! Awesome combination!

I've seen mineral crystals that seemed like sapphire and vice-versa, so I don't get hung up on the crystal material. Shoot, acrylic I'm down with too - it adds warmth, charm and pleasant distortion.

Shrewd move to add that strap! 🎯

That strap might be the best one I’ve seen paired with this watch so far 👏🏼

I've never had issues scratching mineral personally so hopefully my luck will hold up. The mineral is gorgeous though

Appreciate it! FYI Steveo stitches the union jack on all his straps, this one included (as he's a Brit himself). I couldn't get the Canadian flag on mine so I had him leave it out

What means tonneau case?

Its the shape/style of the watch case. This one in particular was pretty popular in the 70s

Hamilton it s an expensive brand for Romania from where I am. Is there any brand that is around 100 euro, with this case?

Where to find vintage market, online?

·

eBay is good or antique watch sellers, just make sure to do your research before buying

·

Looks so good. Does it wear small? I've been thinking of "upgrading" from my khaki field to this one.

The tonneau case gives it the right amount of wrist presence without feeling small. I really like the classic dimensions and the textured dial with the domed crystal elevated it for me
