Need help deciding on my first (and possibly only) purchase of 2024

Last year I bought and sold alot of pieces to refine my collection. In total I sold 2 watches and added 3, my collection at the moment is one I'm content with

So for 2024 I told myself that I can only purchase one watch. The two that have stuck out to me and keep surfacing are the Nivada Grenchen Super Antarctic Spider and the Christopher Ward Sealander 36mm.

One one hand the NG is all about vintage 60s art deco style while the CW is very much a modern field watch, a true GADA. Most of my watches already fill a GADA role but I also think the unique and barely legible dial of the NG might mean it doesn't get the wrist time it deserves.

So if anybody could maybe share their thoughts/experiences with either or both brands/watches it would really help. Both are small to midsize and roughly the same price.

Thanks again!

Nivada or nothing buddy!

Tried on that Nivada a couple of months ago. Definitely would be my choice of the two!

·

I think the Nivada aesthetically is the more interesting watch.

Yes nothing against CW but the NG is really stunning and has its own history/heritage.

It’s hard to give advice since we don’t know what else is in your collection. I voted for the NG. I think if your taste leans retro, that is the obvious pick. If not, then get the CW.

I have my Seiko alpinist which covers my need for a field watch/ GADA, the Nivada though, nothing quite like it out there

I think you have your answer.

Spider!!

That Nivada is gorgeous, but indeed VERY hard to read. The Sealander is a great GADA watch, but not as “special”.

If I were in your situation, I would consider buying them both and letting the Alpinist go (too busy for me). Good luck with your decision!

The CW is a fantastic watch, but the Antarctic Spider has the extra spice!

·

The Nivada for me quite easily

How I tend to add watches now, is I only add what's unique to my current collection, if it's not unique and doesn't bring something new to the collection, it's probably going to replace a watch in the collection. So if you already have a GADA, the CW should replace it. If your looking to add and not replace, it's the Spider.

Looks the the comments have spoken!
