Good news is that the balance spring looks fine, and so does the pinion. The only thing that that could go wrong is that the travel direction of the impact stone doesn't match the position of the pallet fork. But I would expect it not to run in that regard.
I have to admit, hard to troubleshoot at this point, as the big problems seem to have been avoided.
a) Did the pallet fork move freely and snapped back and forth when pushed with a tool?
b) Has the mainspring been sufficiently wound?
c) Any deformation on the balance spring? Did you take into consideration the position of the pallet fork when rotating the balance into position?
d) Did you check the balance wheel's pivot point for damage?
Water resistance and "stuff", meaning the bezel and chapter ring allow for further variations. Plus they look "manly".
Other than that I find them rather impractical.
