On 2824-type Modding - Part 2

This is a continuation of On 2824-type Modding - Part 1 after I have received the case. This is a field watch style case that I had ordered from AliExpress in gold, but was delivered in rose-gold. (I didn't mind too much, as it looks fairly decent from my point of view.)

This is a 29mm dial, which is exactly what the case is supposed to fit. The diameter of the minute track also fits just right, which is pure luck ... or that both the case and the dial were originally made to fit NH35 movements, and the dial feet were adjusted, and the ST2130 was made to fit the case with a movement spacer ring. I installed the spacer ring upside down at first, but I realize the error of my ways as the case wouldn't close.

The spacer ring also avoided any need to otherwise secure the movement in the case. There were no screws to place that hold tabs against a cutout in the inside wall of the case, nor was there a brass insert that had to be similarly secured to hold the movement.

The assembly was otherwise not very exciting. The 2824-patterned movements have one gotcha, meaning that you need to remove the watch stem from the most outward (time adjustment position) position. Otherwise you might have to reset the keyless works.

Getting the plastic movement spacer ring to seat properly was probably the biggest challenge. Cutting the watch stem, and putting everything back together was a breeze.

I briefly checked the watch face-up on a timegrapher. It fluctuated very slightly around +/- 1 spd, with no beat error and an amplitude slightly about 300 degrees. No need to check any further on that.

What did I learn? The ST2130 seems to function well, so far. Using a dial around 29mm was probably also the easy button for getting the dial and case to match.

So far, the ST2130 was a little more finicky when installing the dial, and getting it placed into the movement. You also may not be quite sure upon ordering the case how the movement will be mounted. (With a few exceptions there is really one default with NHxx movements.)

I will see how this watch works out before trying something more off the beaten path. If so, I shall write part Nr. 3 of this experience.
