Birth year watch

Took me a while to find this 16750 from 1980 to match my birth year. Gotta love the patina and the matte dial. Glad I picked it up before all the vintage prices went nuts. Let’s see some birth year watches here on WC ;)

Congrats!  Beautiful piece!

I’ve also been contemplating a birth year watch (1981 for me).

I’m curious to know what you did to ensure it was actually your birth year?

Serial number dated to production in your birth year?
Warranty card or original sales receipt dated in your birth year?

In my searches it’s been a little more difficult than I imagined to find a watch that is UNMISTAKABLY from a birth year.

Ex. Searching Chrono24 you’ll find a lot of descriptions that are similar to ”estimated date of ____.”

with vintage Rolex, you can never be 100% sure. Its “estimated“ based on serial number range and dial/bezel variations. Make sure you buy from a trustworthy seller.

I got mine checked up and serviced by Rolex service center here in Hong Kong for peace of mind.

good luck! It’s a fun process!

@TonyXXX has the best birth year watch, but then again he is much, much older than me.

If this was a few years younger I'd be making you an offer. Beautiful piece.

Great piece. I had a similar one from 1978. It shared the same Mark 5 dial as yours. nice hands and bezel too. hope you’re enjoying it!

Congrats on that birth year Rolex!  Wear it well.  This old man (1964) will weigh in.  Recently got this one from Chrono24.

While not exactly my birth year, it's close enough. And my only GMT.
