"Terrible watch"?

Vostoks are very serviceable watches, especially after a bit of regulation. While that particular model doesn't appeal to me, Vostok makes something for everyone. Don't sell them short...

oh i don't...i have a gmt that i find of better quality.

this one just has some weirdness to the movement/crown and just feels more "tinnie"

for 100$ they are great fun

The wobbly crown is a feature not a bug. They should all do it.

First, welcome to the community! Vostok crowns take some getting used to, as they are wobbly on purpose. I believe the crown looseness provides additional protection for the movement, but I am not sure. Vostok aesthetics also take some getting used to. 😂 Having said that, they are truly robust and durable. I have two in my collection; an Amfibia and a Komandirskie. I think the Komandirskie rivals the Seiko SNK809 as a great entry level mechanical watch. I got mine for less than $50.

I love Vostok and all, designs are original and thing. The movement is dog rough, really rough. Got my scuba dude broken when its tiring pain in the ass changing date. 80 dollars might not be much, it is a lot in 3rd world country. Better stick with Seiko or Casio under 100 dollars watches.

The wobbly crown reminds me of the story about writing in space.  The Americans spent millions to develop a pen that would work in zero-g.  The Soviets used a pencil.  Maybe untrue, but a good story.

I believe Vostoks should be taken for what they are; a low-cost answer to a potentially expensive question.  Plus, there's something cool about their unabashedly retro, sometimes silly designs.  I mean, can you go wrong with a dive watch that has a submarine on the face?

No, you cannot.

Welcome to the community!

I'm a recent collector last six months and have about 15 watches. My favourites are my amphibia and komanderski and they are the ones my mates most frequently comment on. As bang per buck and history wise you cannot go wrong with these watches. Truly worth collecting!!

thnx

yeah i'm aware of the wobble...

this is my 2nd vostok

when i wear it...give it a hand wind then some seiko shuffle...set.  the seconds hand will stop as it crosses the minute hand. like there is some sort of resistance there. tap or hand shake gets it going again.

like a old soviet tank a bit of hammer gets it going.

Welcome, great watch but where’s the scuba dude?
