As his mother (the Queen) abdicates, making Frederik X King, he rocks his balcony appearance in full uniform and a NATO strap.

I’ve been collecting for a few years. I try to stick to the mantra of buying watches I like and not following trends. I’ve definitely made some mistakes but I try to learn from them.

It still works in full dress. If he was a some random dude LARPing it up in formal wear with a diver on a NATO I'd agree 100%, but he isn't.

No, it looks great because he is a former member of the Frømandskorpset, and is wearing a watch specially made for the unit while wearing his uniform. Beyond even that, wearing a practical watch in any uniform is entirely normal and acceptable.
If you can't see how that's different from Joe civilian wearing a diver on a NATO in formal wear, that's on you.

And even if it isn't any type of statement. I'm not telling a King, who passed a Spec war/Spec Ops selection, how to wear his watch.
Anyone who earned a call sign, means they went through stuff. It's how call signs work, rarely are they ever cool like in Hollywood. Usually it's something funny you did, or a mistake made. According to the interwebz, King Frederick's nickname/call sign was/is Pingo. Since he waddled like a penguin after his wetsuit filled with water doing something.

He, and you, and anyone else, can wear whatever you like. And I can still think it looks terrible. It's all in the eye of the beholder.
Just because it's a military watch, connected to military service, doesn't mean it is automatically "fine" aesthetically. Two entirely different things.
