I am eyeing for a G-Shock, any advice?

Hey watch folks! I scrolled through my youtube feeds today and stumbled across G-Shock GA 2100 content and thought to myself “I need me a G-Shock” as I don’t have one in my current collection.

I need your wisdom, watch folks. Is GA2100 a legit good G-shock? Any alternative/anything to consider before buying one? Thanks!

Ask yourself first:

  1. What functions do you need

  2. What size is your wrist

  3. Do you prefer digital or analogue

·

Other than that, GA-2100 is a legit G-shock. Basically an analogue analogue to the classic "square" (5000/5600/5610 etc), with all the improvements and drawback that physical hands bring. I only recommend you pick a legible variant, because there are many "sleek" options that are harder to read.

I d go for the older rangeman for the first one. But it s bulky...

Embrace the Casio itch and buy a few

The all black model in the pic here was rather hard to read for me and I ended up selling it. There are some other great options available but that one was just not legible enough for me.

Thanks for your guidance mate! Bummer the black ones are having legibility issues. They look so sleek

53 mm is a dealbreaker for me unfortunately. I prefer watches with slimmer profile (hence why GA2100 caught my eye in the first place)

The thing is, I am afraid of spiraling and buying loads of G-Shocks. I don’t trust myself around bargain good watches 😅

I had the same issue with my negative display casio calculator. Thought it couldnt be that bad on the GA2100 since they have better lights.

But better safe than sorry!

If you are considering the CasiOak, I recommend the Bluetooth version for ease of using the functions. The inset digital display is small and using the phone app is much easier than manipulating the buttons. I chose the Caution Yellow version as my wife’s Christmas present to me and then filled the pusher button functions with white paint for legibility. I am happy with it. This is how it looks on my 7” wrist:

Dimensions are misleading with G-shocks. Try them on first!

And if the basic GA-2100 (and GM- and GA-B) feels too big, try smaller GMA-S2100 (or metal GM-S2100) or tiny GMA-P2100.

I picked up the GM-2100 myself and I love it. Next on the list is a 5610.

My issue with the black on black CasiOak was with the analog half being hard to read honestly. I bet if it just had brighter colored indices and hands it would’ve been fine.

Glad you bring up the bluetooth version to the conversation. I am also eyeing “smart” casio such as GBD200U. The bluetooth version is in the same price range as the smart casios. In your experience does the price difference justify the bluetooth function?

Another solid advice! I bought my A168 online and was surprised how small it actually is on my wrist

Any issues on the digital screen? Most black GA2100 on the market have negative screen.

It did for me. Can sync with the exact time, and can use it to find your phone, among other advantages. Wearing mine now.

Absolutely. The small negative display on the CasiOak is hard to read in anything less than good light and taking a few seconds to start the app is faster than using the buttons. Also, I’m old school and wanted the analogue dial. If the functions of the GBD-200U are something you want, then it’s a tough choice.
