Would you consider the PRX Powematic 80 a luxury watch?

Pretty interested in that one since I personally own one It's sub 1k but the quality is amazing and with the history and reputation it brings that's a question to think about

It’s a fantastic entry level luxury watch. such good value.

I'm going to make a general point and specific point.

All wrist watches are luxuries in that we typically don't need them given the presence of ubiquitous electronic devices in our lives (like cell phones) that tell the time and also do a bunch of other things.

Of course, in the watch world, luxury is a loaded concept with different pricing cutoffs and ideas around what it represents. But I imagine under most people's definition, the PRX would not be a "luxury wristwatch."

But this begs the question....who cares?  You sure as hell shouldn't!  If you like the watch (and it truly is an excellent watch), then that's all the answer you need!

Buying an expensive watch (however you define that) isn't some one way street.  If you feel like you're trying to level up and out of watches at certain price points, you're probably approaching the hobby from the wrong angle.

100% agree to all of that

Of course we as watch enthusiasts/collectors live in a spoiled world where the definition of luxury is a bigger topic than it should be.

Nevertheless I think that this question has its reason of existence as long as like you said you keep it in the watch world and don't portrait it on "real life".

For me personally it's not about the prices though. I am strongly represented in homage watches, not to pretend for them to be their expensive idol but because I love the look.

It’s a matter of opinion and circumstance.

I think any item designed and priced to be ‘affordable’ (context applied), can’t be deemed as a luxury offering.
Not to say it isn’t a great product, but it’s accessibility and affordability goes against the principles of what ‘luxury’ brands aim to provide.
If that makes any sense.

It makes a lot of sense very good and reasonable point

I think that it’s a great looking watch. But I wouldn’t class it as luxury. Well made, solid and stylish it certainly is.

For me, luxury pertains more to exclusivity - but I suppose it’s a subjective thing and means different things to different people - context can be everything.

I’d have not trouble wearing one at all, it’s a great pickup!

·

It’s sort of subjective. 650 dollars for a watch is completely unattainable for most people in the world so it would definitely be a luxury. But within the watch industry it’s not considered a luxury watch.

·

A nice watch with a decent movement, but not luxury

·

No , but it is all realative

That watch you have there is more of a enthusiast or entry luxury. If I were you for sure keep until one day when you ever purchase you first real Luxury watch put it next to it and compare and see the difference.
