NWA: My first G-Shock

I've been toying with the idea of getting a G-shock for a while now but I was always hesitant due to my smaller wrists. I've finally decided to get on...

Which to pair with the Explorer 1?

They're totally different watches, different styles, colors, vibe, etc. but I kind of narrowed it down to these two watches. I think they are both versatile and can exist with the Explorer, meaning th...

Black Bay 58 on smaller wrists

Calling on the collective knowledge of Black Bay fans for this. 🙂 I'm thinking of getting a diver to compliment my Explorer and having a 6.25 inch wr...

Thanks! I don't plan on owning a lot, and the price I got it was reasonable so I thought I'd pull the trigger on this one. 😊

Congratulations on the Explorer, it's definetly a great watch!

I don't know if it's a stage but I definitely gravitate towards iconic watches. I have the 114270, a vintage King Seiko with a grammar of design case, an SKX, and an incoming GW-5000u.

I'm looking towards getting maybe a speedy, a GS, or a black bay in the future.

I feel like I'm basic but I like what I like, and life's too short to get things that don't resonate with you.

When buying vintage watches, always buy the seller. Are they a reputable seller with a good return policy? Do they have good reputation and are known to be experienced in selling vintage watches? Will the watch be serviced/has been serviced prior to them selling it to you?

Box and papers are not so important (to me) when buying vintage watches but may be important to you.

These are questions I have whenever I look at vintage watches. You should also temper your expectations in regards to vintage as they were not made with modern materials/processes.

Good luck!

Nice collection! I'm glad you found your sporty piece. 😊 How's the 411 so far?

If I was in your position, I'd keep the Exporer as my daily, the GS for dressy situations (although it can double-duty as a daily too). For something you can bash around (aside from a G-shock), I'd consider the following:

Seiko - SPB411, SPB317, SRPC35, or the SJE093

Oris - something from the Aquis line 39.5

Something German - something from Nomos (Ahoi or Club Sport); something from Sinn (104, EZM3, or U50)

My wife's preference are small watches as well. In her words, "simple but sophisticated". Some watches that I am considering are:

  • Nomos Tangente

  • Cartier Tank

  • Cartier Panthere

  • Longines Dolcevita

  • Longines Mini Dolcevita

However, she isn't really a watch person (she's been wearing the same Seiko Lukia for 15 or so years) so I feel like she would appreciate a quartz movement more. Consider that too, as it might be easier for someone to just have a grab and go piece instead of having a mechanical/automatic watch.

I love this version of the BB36 more than the newer ones.
