Why I Continue to Be Part of Watch Crunch

Since my earliest encounters with social media,, I've harbored a deep-seated apprehension toward it. With the exception of engaging on professional platforms, I've kept a deliberate distance, I'm sure many of you can relate. The anonymity of the online world allows people to post offensive content, engage in trolling and harassing others with impunity. It's disheartening to witness the inherent cruelty that often surfaces.

YouTube, in particular, has been a source of valuable information for me. However, it's not immune to those who employ offensive and sensationalistic tactics to gain attention and views. Another recurring issue I've noticed is the prevalence of repetative discussions, almost as if everyone is echoing the same talking points, as though from a single source. Watching adults behave like children has never been my jam.

But then in February 2023, I stumbled upon a few videos on YouTube, in particular I found Max on Watch Crunch. What immediately struck me was his composed and objective delivery. He presented his insights without disparaging brands or fellow YouTubers, it was refreshing and very positive.

Encouraged by my wife, a social media influencer, I took a leap of faith and joined Watch Crunch. It was intimidating, as I am no expert - just an enthusiast (and remember I'm not a fan of social media). I wondered how my experience would be once joining.

To my pleasant surprise, it has been a deeply rewarding and enjoyable journey. So, why do I remain part of Watch Crunch? The answer is quite simple: the community embodies objectivity and embraces newcomers with open arms, regardless of the watch they wear on their wrist.

While I understand nothing lasts forever, I intend to enjoy every moment of this ride. So the question is, why have you decided to stay with Watch Crunch?

I like looking at cool watches and most people in my social circle could care less about watches. Its fun having people to talk to watches with! There are some pretty cool folks on here. 😁

·

Honestly reading this post felt like you infiltrated my thoughts and typed it into existence. I would add that the features they have added over time have also been an improvement to the this watch social media and the positive effort the community puts into it as well never ends in surprising me.

·

I joined watch crunch to learn and talk about watches and figure I give WC a try. I got tired of the snobbery in other forums, across all types of people and brands.

·

Thanks for all your contributions Danilo!

Thanks Danilo! I don't do any social media at all except for this forum but I do watch utube. So when I found this platform I wasn't sure how it worked or how to navigate it. To be honest I'm still learning. So far I'm having fun and for the most part everyone has been pretty cool. Thanks for the post. I good to know I'm not alone.

I've been a member of various watch forums for years. Some are still here but many have gone away.

Just remember that informative forums don't rely on group think and it's OK to have a difference of opinion.

To really enjoy a discussion group is to have thick skin. Otherwise it's artificial. Too often I have seen people with strong opposition to certain threads labled as haters, which is seldom the case.

We are all different and entitled to opinions.

If we were all the same, life would suck.

I have tried Reddit, but found it to be a cesspool. Watchcrunch had been a source of information and relating with other watch enthusiast.

·

It's fun because the vast majority here are very respectfull not judging and kind. It's a safe place to discuss watches far from politics and more dividing polarizing subjects and this is a breath of fresh air! And so many cool watches here that I would probably never seen if it weren't from this blog app.

·

I’m in agreement with @lla2891 none of friends/family care nothing about watches. It’s nice to be able to talk about watches and I also finding out about watch brands I never heard of before like Kurono Tokyo. I’ve done a review and I don’t review anything 😂, I even try to get a little more creative with my #wruw shots 😂. I could go on and on but long story short this a super dope site/app.

·

I’ve been here for a year. I keep wondering if it’s inevitable that this place will go to hell once it gets big enough. So far, it hasn’t. I hope that continues.

Right? I also like that I can search posts on watches I am interested in to see if people have first hand experience with the watch. I do look at YouTube reviews too its nice looking at both. I also enjoy your posts and content too!

WC = No Judgment Zone. Well said @Onepunch. Thanks Joe. 🙏

Not a problem fellow Cruncher, just saying it how it is. WC is the place I feel comfortable posting and talking about watches, also helps when I have all the expert knowledge on watches here. I never have to go far if I need a question about watches answered. Its just so convenient 👌💪👍

·

I was a member of another site prior to joining WatchCrunch but that lasted about two days, whereupon I asked the moderator to delete my account. Man the snobbery there...

I try to be a positive force here on WC, and I believe most other members try to do the same, but there are a couple of jerks who I've blocked and a couple of members with political agendas that have flavored their watch commentary, and I've blocked them too. 🙄

I'm here for friendly people talking about watches and I've found that here on WatchCrunch. Great community. ❤

Well said Eric. No place for nastiness or politics, etc. I just want to talk about watches🤣. Great response 👍🏽

I meant to reply to this sooner but work got in the way. I know I know, how dare I let anything get in the way of watches and anything related to watches!? ;)

You sir and everyone else like yourself on this forum is the reason I continue to be a part of this community. Like yourself, I've shied away from social media because of in my opinion, rampant disinformation and the lack of respect for other people's opinions.

Anyway, I'm digressing. I originally joined Watch Crunch for a place to read and access news related to watches. And I have to admit, I was originally shy about posting my wrist shots because I thought my watches were not worthy. My entire collection can be considered affordable. But it was you and others like you that made me realize that regardless if a watch is entry level, luxury, or even fashion watches, that the commonality was that we all have a love or interest in all things horological. A simple emoji of appreciation revealed to me that the first rule of Watch Crunch is that there are no judgements, just appreciation. And for that, I thank you and everyone in this forum that has allowed me to share my enthusiasm for watches!

Kit, great commentary...a very kind response and "we" all thank you. The one word that resonates with me is "worthy". Every watch we own is for a specific reason that means everything to the owner. Appreciating the history of horology and what drove us to own the pieces we covet is special and worthy of discussion. Thanks again @Vinylic !

Over the past decade, a significant portion of my time has been dedicated to social media, primarily driven by my other business and passion: photography. Even today, I maintain a presence across various platforms. This particular platform is a captivating one, where the community is united by their shared passion for watches. It's a place largely devoid of unnecessary distractions. However, I've observed a behavior pattern in some individuals wherein they follow you only until you follow them back, after which they promptly unfollow you, seemingly to inflate their own follower count. Such actions seem counterproductive to the essence of this platform. It appears that some individuals find it challenging to break old habits.

Difference in opinion is one thing, shaming someone else for their choices is not acceptable to me.

I saw that BS once on here also. I choose not to block him. I was in the right mood to put them in their place 🤣

nicely

Three things I’ve noticed in the short time I’ve been on here:

  1. It seems like most people are on a “team” meaning they have a particular brand or style they like. When someone else is less enthusiastic or impressed with their brand or style, it all most seems personal so there is a little friction.

  2. I’ve seen a lot of people present their opinion as fact. One person suggested that “many people buy Tudors because that can’t afford a Rolex.” That seems like an opinion to me and it’s pretty rude to all Tudor owners.

  3. It seems to be that the group will selectively criticize some watch brands by name and for some reason protect others. There is no shortage of criticism for Rolex but small brands must be protected?

These are my opinions and observations so far.

All true and all normal observations in an open forum.

Real world stuff.

Hey Ned, appreciate your input. Interesting how some can have hundreds of followers but they follow no one🧐. Silly is a nice way of putting it...

Have a good evening!
