What do you own already?
What style do you like the most.
What do you want out of the watch? Like a tool watch? Dressier ish?
Is this AP or patek philippe?

I have :
Orient Bambino
Tissot PRX
Swatch clearly
It might be handy to give us some idea as to what you are looking for:
What style (diver, field, dress, etc.)
What functionality (day/date, moon phase, etc.)
What size (40mm, 37mm, etc.)
Any other requirements or desires (water resistance, bracelet only, etc.)
That said in the <$400 range Seiko, Citizen, orient, Casio have plenty to offer.
Micro brands are also good to look at!
The greatest G shock of all time? Gw9400 Rangeman ๐ช๐ป
IMO, better but YMMV. For the Emprah!
On a serious note, Seiko SNE573. Everything a Rolex MilSub/Submariner should be. Goes with everything. Solar Quartz, Water ready, fits under cuffs, depending on strap classy to sporty.
Maybe a seiko?
Really hard to provide you with feedback without knowing what you like or what size you like to wear. If you have slimmer wrists or like a smaller case size (37mm), this limited run Seiko is like $400 on the nose. This Seiko feels a bit bigger than the bezel ones of similar size since the dial takes up the entire case.
Also consider Baltic, but keep in mind itโs an acrylic crystal. Also right at $400.
I like the Seiko diver mentioned above. A Casioak might be a good introduction as a beater/sport watch.
Give all the Islander watches a look at Long Island Watch. Marc has designed some stunners. I just got his Port Jefferson diver in black and gilt and love it. I think $415 but other Islanders are $300ish.
I have the same recommendation I always have. Go to https://longislandwatch.com/ and select the shop by price option. Hundreds of options.
Hamilton Khaki Field Auto.
As you donโt have a dive watch yet. Iโd suggest one of them. My go to recommendation on affordable divers is Orient, Iโve got their Kamasu and love it.
This is their 42mm version but they also do a 40. Otherwise if you donโt want to get another Orient maybe check out the Prospex line, or the Citizen Promaster line.
Or thereโs a whole load of microbrands that make good divers Iโd check out Zelos and RZE wear you could get a nice titanium diver at a reasonable price.
