Anyone knows alternatives to Longines Spirit 40mm white dial?

Hi everybody, I kindly ask you to give me some suggestions to find alternatives to Longines Spirit 40mm White Dial.

Please consider the following criterias before giving suggestions:

  • COSC Certification or similar very good precision (doesn't matter the power reserve, anything more than 38hrs would be fine)
  • Manual handwinding or Automatic
  • Size and thickness (can be between 37 and 41mm and not thicker than 12.5mm)
  • Water resistance (100m and above with screw-down crown at least)
  • A white or super similar lighter dial color! (Since i'm trying to find an alternative to a white dial watch, mother of pearl should be fine btw.)
  • Sapphire crystal (domed or not doesn't matter)
  • Lumed hands (or also numerals but hands would be enough)
  • Below 2500$ or close at least
  • Preferably an even lug with since it is a pain to find a great strap or bracelet for an odd lug size such as 21mm on this Longines.

My current alternatives are;

Nomos Club Campus Neomatik 39 and Formex Essence 39. So any suggestion other than those two would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance!

@robwei has a similar thread going. My recommendation that might work for you is the Chris Ward C63 Sealander. Comes in both a 36 and 39mm case. The only thing missing is the COSC certification, but it uses a good Selita movement. Just now CW are advertising it for €1015.

Try a Mido Multifort Chronometer? 42mm, white dial.

Image

100 meters WR, COSC certified, just a bit over $1k retail. 80 hour power reserve (automatic, using an ETAC07.821 base, the Caliber 80 Si, the one with a silicon balance spring). Lug width 22mm. 12mm thick.

It is lovely but i've skipped it before just because of the size, and since the bezel is also so thin it even looks bigger than 42mm :(

Yes, I'm also following there and seen that Monta Noble is a great alternative. And wow, it is also a pretty good alternative, thanks!

Try one of Seiko Alpinist 1959 with the white dials? Those are 38mm, though they are a bit thick at 12.9mm. 200 meters WR, 70 hour power reserve. Retails around...I want to say $750-ish dollars though you can find them around $690, maybe even lower depending on the AD/reseller (no-one buys a Seiko on retail, hence why they keep making limited editions, I suppose).

Have you considered just getting the Spirit on the grey market?  Jomashop is selling this one for $2030:

Or, if you’re willing to do it with a silver dial, $1775:

Have you seen the Spirit in 37mm with a chapagne dial? It fits most of your criteria, aside from the 19mm lug width.

Image

I think it’s way better proportioned with the date at 6 and the lug to lug is much better in terms of wearability. Plus, look at that dial 😍.
Also the 37mm is a timeless size, I have tried the 40mm on and it wears larger, I expect this 37mm to wear more like a 38-39mm, which is perfect in my opinion.

I know and had the chance to wear it and it is amazing, really I can call it as a piece of art. But it is so champagne :) Really not close to be a white dial :) But as i've said, it looks way much better than from the pics. Gorgeous dial.

·

What was your problem with the silver Spirit? Was it the lug widht only? Otherwise it seems to fit your spec list.

·

Stowa is the first brand that comes to mind for me with the Marine Classic 40. They will even let you pick manual vs auto vs top grade auto. You have the top grade/ manual within your budget (COSC movement without the Cosc regulation but the three I have had have all been impressively accurate). There is a 41mm as well if you want a Unitas movement. One place you would be compromising is water resistance (50m). Heat-blued hands are really fun in person.

I see, I haven’t had the chance to see it in person.

I would also suggest the Seiko Alpinist SPB119. It’s an absolute strap monster and there are great aftermarket bracelet options, such as UncleSeiko.

I had problems with the lug width but found some good straps and a brushed milanese from strapcode and I'm pretty happy with them. So overall I don't have any problem with it and I would like to keep it forever 😀 I'm asking because I'm preparing a review video and at the and I'm planning to talk about the alternatives. I'll also mention this platform to let people to join those kind of discussions.

OK, I thought you had dismissed it and were looking alternatives.

Funny, as I read the post my first thought was the Nomos Club line.  And then you named it in the final words.

Omega Aquaterra would be great, but outside of your price range.   Another nod to the previously mentioned Christopher Ward Sealander.    Check a lot of the boxes with a similar look and style ...

Aqua Terra's are too thick. The OP wants no more than 12.5mm thick. AT's are 13.2mm.

I was going to re-reccomend the Nobel, but you got there 🙂

It seems pretty awesome. i've added it to my script as well but I need to learn more about it to talk about ;)

I'll check out this post for even more recommendations 😉

As you're looking for a chronometer, I'll throw one in waaaay below your budget.

It's not a stunner. It's not cool. But it does the job... 🤣

Image

Tissot PR 100 Chronometer, it's discontinued but you can sometimes find them new for ridiculous prices.

·

While not COSC, maybe keep it in the Longines family with the Silver Arrow. I think it’s a real beauty.

I have one from the reinterpration series, the green one, it is excellent (my next video will be for that btw) and one of the most comfortable wacthes I ever worn. But unfortunately 6R35 movement is not precise enough to compare with a COSC movement. Somehow it changes day to day for my watch, some days it is pretty good like under 10 secs but some days it is shifting almost a min or more. Of course it depends on the position of it.

I love it starting from the first time i've seen it on the wrist of Teddy Baldassarre but I guess even it is pretty precise it is not waterproof enough, just 30m afaik.

Wow, how i could miss that! Thanks @robwei ! As i've read from somewhere tissot is planning to release a newer version or a newer model that will take place for it. But they are waiting till the hype of the prx goes down a little bit. And still possible to find from chrono24 I believe. Nice catch! Thank you!

Oh my god,

This is a pretty good one, thanks again! I've just checked the overall specs and it is pretty fantastic though.

Admittedly this is pushing the price likely too high, but what about the Autark T5 - Swiss Pearl by Horage? Exceptional value.

Style-wise I would throw in the Alpina Startimer Pilot 40mm. Although it isn't COSC grade, the price is just below $1,000. It has 100m water resistance, a sapphire crystal, and a movement based on the Sellita SW-200.

Ok, here's one more from me too, so i'll definitely add this one to the video as a direct competitor, maybe for most of the people a better deal!

This is in pre-order right now but Ball also have other Engineers in their list still in the acceptable price range.

Here's the Ball Engineer Master II Endurance 1917 (pre-order)

Engineer Master II Endurance 1917 (40mm)

And here's the followers with a little more expensive price tag (I guess that endurance model will also get higher after the pre-orders closed)
