Where are the Breitlings?

I love my #breitling - their dials are 🔥- I want a green dial actually. I am not a huge fan of their movements though. I feel that you can do more for your money.

They are essentially the trio in many ways along Rolex and Omega for “well-known watch brands that are also accessible luxury priced at MSRP.”

But their brand is more well known in Europe, and also their designs are frankly less appealing to modern audiences. They are now doing well in recent years by reducing their watches sizes and putting out some interesting nice designs like the Premier and the Navitimer 41mm.

So because of that you hear much less about them, will be interesting to see where they go in the coming years.

I should add the navitimer is stunning in person. Superocean is also nice looking and so is the premier

Breitling got a bit of a bad reputation for being poseur watches (most unfortunate). That cloud has passed overhead and more folks are enjoying the quality and value of their watches again. Same thing happened with Tag Heuer. I’m in love with the Breitling Premier chronograph in pistachio! Mmm, mmm good!👍

That's exactly the style I've been considering. Maybe more towards a black dial but this one is clean.

I hate to admit this, but I go through it all everyday and see them off and on. I'm retired and have the time to do this lol.

Super Ocean. I have yet to see a model that I don't like.

How was the original strap?

Too stiff and big for my liking. I might retry wearing it during the summer, maybe it'll break in and feel better.

Breitling was a hot brand of the late 2000’s and early 2010’s. They’ve faded since then as the bold aesthetic the brand embodied started to become less fashionable among watch enthusiasts (Panerai falls into a similar boat). I think if they modify their designs to fit the more streamlined vintage-inspired trend, they'll be able to regain their notoriety. It seems like they’re already on that path.

Makes me wonder if the current enthusiast darling Tudor will follow a similar cycle in a decade’s time, though …

Yes you are 100% correct - in my biased opinion 😂. Beautiful dial colour that varies subject to light & angle. I like the leather band too.

There's a number of Breitling models that I like a lot - the Super Ocean Heritage '57, the Navitimer Cosmonaute, the Avi 765, the Avi 'Mosquito' … but each time I get hands on with the brand I'm underwhelmed.

I've never seriously considered owning one and have always thought 'I wouldn't buy that over XXXX'. I do like some of their vintage chronographs though.
