No-Date Watches | My Unhealthy Addiction

I love no-date watches. I think a lot of us do.

In real life (mine that is)... I have to say they're shit. Completely useless for on-the-fly planning and scheduling. I think my attraction towards them is more of a fantasy than anything else.

Date complications, and day-date if you can swing it, is truth. Hands down one of the most useful features a mechanical/automatic watch can provide (iN mY oPiNiOn of course).

I'm a no date fan too, tho I've never missed not having one. 🤔

I really don’t have trouble remembering the date as I go about my day. And I know what the date is because I’m able to add 1 to yesterdays date 😁 I have a lot of date watches, but I really never set that function. I think they take away symmetry of the watch face unless they are done well. Just my opinion as well. If I have the option, I go no date.

Tudor BB 36 is gorgeous. I have a white dial OP36 and it is hands down my favorite watch.

For me, it comes to design in the overall makeup of the watch, vs the watch's general taxionomy of classification.

I love a no-date OP > a datejust. I just do, I don't know why. I absolutely don't mind the day-date function on the SKX. They just go together. On my SLA033 willard, the truest reissue to the larger 6105 to date, I am fine with a date. This is the actual watch I scuba dive with and although there is absolutely no practical reason why you need a date when scuba diving, I just cannot picture the design without it.

On the flip side, I just posted a poll RE: the IWC pilot mark series... I love the mark series but the date seems like a departure from the design. Would love to see a modern take on the mark xi...

In a similar vein, the tank for me is a time only watch. When deciding between the must solarbeat and the must automatic, I opted for the Solarbeat. While there were many factors influencing my decision, (auto's dial is nicer, solarbeat's size is more classic, etc) the date window on the automatic, even though at 6 o clock, was the deal breaker.

In the digital world where watches are primarily romanticized objects first and foremost and everything second, form can trump function.

·

I'm a time only person also. Despite the models I have, many complications such as the chronograph function and timing bezels adds little to no value to my daily life.

·

I much prefer no date but I won’t kick one out of bed if it has a date.

·

I had been pining for a no-date for a while, now that I have not sure I can ever go back.

If I only owned one watch, I’d have an automatic watch with a day date complication. In fact, back before smart phones, when I did own just one watch, that’s exactly what I had (a Montblanc Star Chrono with day and date). But the moment you have more than one watch, the date complication becomes a hassle. Half the time, it’ll be wrong, which results in you having to check the date on your phone anyway. I have 4 watches with dates, of which one is a day date. Every time I put one on I diligently set the date. But every time I go to check the date, I get my phone out as I don’t bloody trust I actually set the date on my watch correctly. So, put simply, if you’re a collector, dates are pointless, sometimes pretty, but practically pointless.

My core collection is 4 watches, and 3 of them have a date. The dateless watch doesn’t get much wear during the week.

·

I won't buy a watch without a date complication on principle

·

I’ll take a no date every time it’s an option. I can very easily keep track of the date and day in my head. Maybe when I’m very old that will be different, but I don’t need my phone or watch to remind me of the day or date. I already know it 😎

Cyclops date magnifier has entered the chat…

It's a bit harder to keep track of in my line of work👍

When I’m able to retire I’ll probably have a hard time keeping track. But then again, I also may not care 😉😃

I like dress watches to be no-date, for that sense of not caring what the date is when celebrating a special dress up event.

I find a small date window to be out of proportion and retracts from the overall beauty.

A nicely sized, framed, and even asymmetrically placed date window can be a further expression of the designer’s vision, hard work, and attention to detail.

There's no arguing that

Not a fan of day complications but i do want a date complication on my watches.

I’m still suffering from the after effect of 2 years lack of sleep because of this condition called, “fatherhood”.

So… yes, I often cannot remember what’s today’s date for the life of me.

·

I'm conflicted. I love no-dates, but I think I've been conditioned to love dates/day-dates because of my Seiko bias.

I think we all like the idea of the no-date; it represents the simplicity that we all think we want.

For me, date complications are bad until they're not, which is very quickly after I walk out the front door.
