Grand Seiko or Breitling??

This is a question for the true luxury watch aficionados.  If you have $6k to spend on a watch, what would you get a Grand Seiko Winter or Breitling Navitimer Automatic 41?  Please explain the reason for your choice.  Thanks

Hi, Good question I currently have a breitling & I live it. Looking at the pictures on the web I think G.S is nicer than Breitling,

the Breitling looks a bit busy on the dial

😁👍

Navitimer is one of the all time classics. But , at the end of the day, buy what makes you happy.

Yes I agree with @Welshman

Flying B!

If I were forced to choose with a strict $6K budget, I would buy a slightly used GS White Birch Hi Beat (SLGH005). Part of that decision is the only Navitimer I really (REALLY) want is the Pan Am, and they are hard to come by at $6k. $6k gets you just about any GS you like.

BUT, if you like the Navitimer, there is no substitute, so go for that.

·

Grand seiko all day long, especially now with the low prices from Japanese sellers.

·

If you need to calculate your fuel range or convert kilometers to nautical miles you will want a navitimer.  If you want a dress watch you should get the GS.

·

For myself I'd buy a solid Grand Seiko. That said, you choose wamt you want. 🍻

GS‘s are far lower cost in Japan right now, it actually makes sense to jump on a plane and go there to pick it up and wear it back ‘ahem anything to declare sir’ ‘nope!’. You can save 1k on the price after your flight ticket. ‘Yeh babes, just nipping to Japan to pick up my now watch…I can’t believe I can save a grand by doing it this way!, we can put that grand into the holiday fund’ 😂

I had a very similar dilemma last year when I was visiting Philadelphia. I spent some considerable time going back and forth between a Breitling (Premier B01) and a Grand Seiko (SBGA413 Spring).

The decision?

I'm wearing it right now, as it happens.

Any regrets? None whatsoever. The GS is a genuine source of joy. The 62GS case, the hands and indices, the smooth sweep, that dial. Oh and it keeps great time, is comfortable, and all that important stuff also. Go for the Winter.

·

I would always go with GS. Only because I adore the brand and have never felt the draw towards Breitling. So really it’s about going with your heart and less about what we all think. I find it so hard to be objective as a GS fanboy!!

·

I think those two are completely different watches in terms of style. Both good and iconic but the decision between them is a taste-based one only really.

That’s a beautiful watch my friend!

·

GS , as I'm not really a big fan of Breitling Navitimer.

·

I feel like the Navitimer is one of the iconic tool watches where as the GS we are talking about have more of a luxury vibe.  It's a hard comparison. I would probably say GS if luxury is what you are looking for.  But I love a lot of what Brietling is doing.  I keep trying on Premiers ... sigh....

·

If it was me, the Brietling hands down. Its a classic piece!

If your price is 6k then you’re looking at the rose gold bezel / indices versions of the Navitimer.

If you’re looking at the rose gold then very likely you have a reason for that.

Either you’re tired of steel and want something in the collection to warm things up a bit.

Or your style is evolving in that direction.

Of course the GS (most GS) is beautiful. But if you’re drawn to something because of a specific aspect of beauty you want to indulge in… then indulge away my friend.

My pick would be the grey dial. That colour combination, the matching date wheel, the tiny pop of red in the second hand and the overall feel of the piece with the warm indices and bezel… well…

Unique.

Elegant.

Jaw droppingly gorgeous on wrist.
