My 5 month Collection...

I was (and still am) a technology nut, and a big fan of the Apple Watch.  I didn't appreciate traditional watches, but picked up a Tag while on a cruise in September 2021 under pressure from my wife to have something to wear in a more 'formal' setting.  That started me down a rabbit hole of research, and led to the acquisition of 11 analogue watches (as of April 2022) - with more to come!

Definitely made some mistakes in trying to get a sense of watches (would get rid at least 2 in this collection, including the Bulova and the Orient).

Haven't gotten anything vintage/used yet, so starting to explore that territory.  Next up is likely a Speedster 57', Moonwatch, or Pro Diver 300.

Favorites are the Tudor Heritage, Breitling Chronomat, & Omega Worldtimer, but all except the mistakes have a special significance to me.

Bro.......wow. Not sure what I'd part with if I was you. Very cool collection so far. Thanks for sharing.

·

I went out month ago with the intent to purchase an Tissot PRX, beautiful watch... Left the shop sad... Too small for me 😑

·

jajaja you´re Elon Musk´s brother or something??? There´s a couple of bucks right there jajajaja

But really cool man, really nice pieces!

·

@thejager1 I hesitate to add it up, but I figure somewhere around $30k-$35k; I'm not Elon's brother, but I make a decent living.  Just hope my wife doesn't find this community/post as it's a scary number when you think about it.

Watch addiction: The moment when you see several cool watches in a collection, but your brain automatically drives you to the empty spot of that watch box, and you feel a strong need to put a new watch in that empty, sad and alone spot.

Jokes aside, great collection! I specially like that beautiful Breitling 👌🏻

·

@TheLeftyWatchNerd That space reserved for the Rolex Datejust Wimbledon 41.  Someday.  Meanwhile I have 2 slots to replace so at least 3 more before I can call it 'Done'...(but who are we kidding?) ;)

·

Great collection - love that AquaTerra World Timer.

Mate you have some sweet looking watches in your collection already, for someone who hasn’t been collecting that long you’ve done exceptionally well 👍

What about a German watch next?

Can't argue with that logic, already have the NOMOS Tangente Neomatic on my short list, along with:

  • Omega SpeedMaster 57' (red)
  • Omega Pro Diver 300M (Green)
  • Omega Speedmaster (TBD)
  • Rolex Datejust 41 Wimbledon
  • IWC Spitfire Bronze/Green
  • Anordain Model 1 Plum
  • Grand Seiko SBGH269
  • MontBlanc 2022 GMT
  • Oris ProPilot

Open to voting or suggestions on which of those should actually come next.

jajaj scary would be accurate man. You’ve a very solid collection man, i can only congratulate you and perhaps encourage you to change that orient for a Citizen or a Marathon or even a Lorient.

I’m a bit biased but my personal choice would be the Grand Seiko first 👍 then the Omega Pro Diver second.

What about something completely different like a Ming watch, if you can get one that is 🤔

Or a Tudor Ranger?

The only one on your list that I’m not a big fan of is the Rolex, unfortunately just not my cup of tea.

Whatever your choice I’m sure it’s going to be a good one and I look forward to seeing a few pictures here on WatchCrunch 🙏🏻

I was thinking about my wife's reaction if she discovered I dropped $30k on watches in less than a year. I fear for you my friend lol

Considering what triggered this off, the absence of nice dress watches is a bit peculiar - the Tissots are technically sports watches. Longines have some nice dress watches, but the Longines diver in your collection is a rather odd representation of the brand. Similarly, the 2022 Montblanc GMT is another dive-style watch. Montblanc has a GMT in their heritage collection that would make a superb dress watch, as would the IWC Portugieser.

·

If I were you, I'd be thinking "how many of these do I have to trade to get a Moser?", but if you're adding to the box, I vote Anordain.

·

The best thing to do when you have only one slot left in your watch box is to buy another box. This is just a precautionary measure in case - in the future - you may see another one or two watches that you might want to buy. 🙄

Haha; look at you looking for logic in the watch hobby!  ;-)

I didn’t know much about Watch styles when I made the first purchase, and neither did my wife.  So the Tag Link was just a safe bet that seemed like it worked as a versatile watch with a suit or in the sun (living in FL).

Only after getting swallowed up by the abyss of this hobby did I start to discover my own tastes.   With a larger 7.5“ wrist i find myself drawn to larger pieces like the Longines, Omega or Breitling that have a ‘presence’.  Still, I can wear the PRX happily and would like to add a more traditionAl dress piece to the collection at some point.

Nice collection, my man! Nice variety of brands and styles.

Very nice collection, I am currently looking at the Hydroconquest. Looks like a solid diver for the price.

Love everything about it except the clasp which is purely tension and just feels like it takes too much effort to pull.  Otherwise a killer watch that shoots above its price in quality.  The ceramic is well-executed, the hands are clean and attractive, and the big number indices are a very cool/modern look for a diver.  So #recommended

Some folks online complained that the crown guards were uncomfortable, dug in their wrists, what say you?

·

If this is your SOTC after 5 months, wow I can’t imagine where you’ll go from here. Be warned though once drawn into the watch game, there’s no getting out. You can only go deeper. And deeper. And deeper still. 🤪

no issues there for me; way overblown in my opinion.  crown guards don‘t impact my wrists at all, and I like the angular look.  Sure, the crown is nested more deeply than most, but it’s not like you can’t get pressure on it to unscrew it.  people that say it pinches when turned must have teeny fingers and don’t get the idea of half-twisting until the screw-down releases.

·

Love the Hamilton. The Milanese really takes that to the next level.

·

I love a lot of your watches but I’m drawn to the Tag Link. Love that bracelet. That Omega is bad ass. I have an Aqua Terra too, but it’s no Worldtimer.

·

You could look at a Swiss tank watch as they look best for formal wear. Cartier or Oris but Seiko makes a good one too. Its hard to rock a sports watch in a suit. Try a nice black leather strap on your smart watch and it will last longer than the watch.

I also have a 7.5 inch wrist and if you want a watch to have presence, then I would avoid anything under 42mm. 39-40mm is the bottom of the range - I know that a 36mm, while stylish, looks like a child's watch on my wrist (I still have a few).

Based on the watches in your collection, have you ever considered Anonimo? The Epurato at 42mm is a fantastic dress watch, and if it feels like it has Panerai vibes, that's because it was the successor company when Richemont purchased Panerai and fired the employees. The watches they make are gorgeous, but totally solid and they use top grade standard movements from Sellita so it keeps them in the realistic price range generally under $3k. Anonimo was also the first watch company of the modern period to start using bronze (years before Panerai copied them). These are really only for wrists 7.5 inches and up.

Note how the 12 / 04 / 08 make an "A" on the dial.

Here are some of my favorites to consider:

Dress Watch - Epurato (42mm)

Image

Chronograph - Militaire Chrono Vintage (Newman dial) (43.5mm)

Image

Field Watch/Military Watch - Militaire (43.5mm)

Image

Dive Watch - Nautilo (45.5mm)

Great collection. I get more excited about a story of a watch rather then the amount of money spent.  Welcome to the hobby.

Wow man. Very nice collection. I need to up my watch game haha!
