Are Older Omega SMP's Better?

One of my top 5 watch YouTubers, saying something I have said forever (or so it feels); that the 1990s Seamaster designs have something that's been lost in the modern era. Great video. Well worth watching, especially if you're currently shopping Seamaster.

He singles that one out as a great buy. And has done a video on it in the past.

Yup, there’s a reason I haven’t upgraded my 2531.80 😉

True! For me the best seamaster are the 2254.50 (which I have) and the 2531.80 (which I'm searching). It's just sth about this watches that the new one does not have. Also the proportions are much better! The new one is just too chuncky and bulky.

Yes, but with some caveats.

I owned 2 of the older gen SMP's a Quartz and a Auto. My Dad actually still has the quartz.

The newer models do have some genuine improvements , slide lock clasp , better movement , screwed bracelet etc..

But........

Holding the new models in my hand they "felt" like a lesser quality product IMHO. The newer bracelet despite being technically better just feels cheap compared to the old one.

I also prefer the dimensions of the older gens.

I tend to think [read: feel] that back in the day watches were made for a purpose and that purpose was clear for SMP. Today the watches are also made for a purpose, to be sold at a profit.

So yes, I love my 1995 SMP and don't want to downgrade with a newer one. 🤩😂

Yes I think so.

I think so. You can’t beat how thin the watch is.
