An under-appreciated G-Shock?

My quest for a solid & reliable quartz travel watch led me to this recently released metal G-Shock (GM2100), Casio’s answer to the ever-popular metal mod-kit for the affordable GA2100 “Casioak” series.

I like the metal case with the rubber strap. It doesn’t try too hard to look like something it’s not (an AP Royal Oak), but is unmistakably elevated from its octagonal plastic cousin, and looks like a “grown-up watch”.

Which brings me to these question: Why isn’t anyone talking about this watch? How much is our perception of what is desirable shaped by the endorsement of content creators with the fanciest cameras?

It is tempting to pull the trigger on this before I get to save up for a Grand Seiko. We’ll see.

I did buy this watch and to be honest I regret it a little not because there is anything wrong with the watch it’s great but I saw that there is now tough solar bluetooth versions of the earlier rubber Casioaks and I’m sure they’re going to do the same for this. However, it is a nice looking watch if maybe a little big, I just wish I’d held out for the tough solar upgrade that I’m sure is coming.

I have the red one and despite it being completely illegible, I like wearing it as a beater working in the garage or yard.

I am holding myself of pulling the trigger on the new solar GA-B2100 for the same reason, because i hope they release solar powered metal version.

I’m wearing mine today👍

I also own, and love, the green half-steel one. I’ve seen something on the web suggesting a full steel version is not far off  🥳

Same. This is no doubt a great release, but it’s hard to beat the new Tough Solar with BT. I’d hold out a bit longer for the metal release if you can.

Thanks for sharing Your experience. Enjoy this one though, it’s a beauty!

I was on the very verge of buying one, but decided to go with the all red plastic one because it was cheaper and reminded me of a differetn Casio I used to have. I do want a metal G Shock at some point.

Just saw they’re bringing out the bluetooth tough solar version in Japan next month. Looks like you made the right choice to wait. 👍

“How much is our perception of what is desirable shaped by the endorsement of content creators with the fanciest cameras?”.  Boy, there is a lot of truth to that!  I’m a little embarrassed to admit that I have five Hamilton Khaki Mechanicals, and a dozen G-Shock squares, due largely to those influences — and my own indiscipline.

Walking your own path: good for you!

And just a day after we spoke about it, Jody frim JOMW release a video with the tough solar all steel CasiOak GM-B2100. And from what i see i will have to skip it, because the price is just insane as he says its 999$ AUD.

The all red and white GA2100 are HOT!

The new all metal versions that Jody showed off are over priced and look a little like a 'poor mod' in my opinion.
