What's the difference between the "hulk" and the "kermit" ? just renamed coz of the model number?

This is really remarkable!  I mean, the totally meaningless, idiosyncratic details that each watch has and that collectors focus on is mind-boggling!  And, when I make fun of "collectors," I'm making fun of me!

Me:  Ooooh...  check out this 44GS case!  It's in titanium!  And it's got a vertically brushed black dial that evokes the occasional torrential downfall of dark human blood and viscera that blankets the windows of the studio in Shizukuishi from the human sacrifice rituals during the autumnal Harvest Moon Festival

My wife:  Don't you already have a bunch of black watches?

Me:  Baby, didn't you hear anything I said?  It's got a vertically brushed dial!

Flat 4 versus Pointed 4?  Price difference is thousands???  Really???

This world we live in is utterly nuts!

Im a victim of this non-sense as I own both a Kermit and a Starbucks. Worse yet, while working on my car one saturday I put a massive gouge in the bezel insert of my Kermit. I promptly took it to the AD for a replacement.  Little did I know that my original insert was a flat 4, and my new insert is pointed. That gouge cost me about $3000 in valuation plus the $550 the AD charged me to replace it. I only know it was a flat 4 by the serial number. BTW, I bought the watch new in 2006 for $4800 USD.

In any event, I'll never sell it and IDGAF about value or "what its going for" this week. I buy 'em cuz I like 'em. You cant enjoy them when you're gone (dead), so my only hope is that my 3 daughters marry well.

If not, they go to buddies (who, btw, wear f'ing Casios....savages). Lololol.

Another day, another interesting read from @celinesimon. 👍 You made the Kermit interesting to me, and honestly, I was always meh about this one. Kudos to you for that. 😉

One thing that was surprising to me was the aluminum bezel. I thought Rolex had started transitioning to ceramic by the time the Kermit came out and didn't realize it was actually a couple of years after the Kermit that Rolex started using ceramic. I guess I just assumed that the Kermit had a ceramic bezel like the Hulk. In all fairness, as a comic book geek, the Hulk is more interesting to me than the Kermit, which has never really been that interesting to me. Aesthetically, I am not a fan of black dials with colored bezels, regardless of the color. I prefer the dial and bezel to match on my dive watches, so the Kermit flew under my radar for the most part.

I love these drops. The Kermit is legendary.

Another great read. I'm really enjoying this series for Twain Time. I noticed that the 3rd installment of the Daytona series is on the Twain site, but I don't recall seeing a post about it here.

·

I've always wondered what the difference is between the Kermit and the Starbucks. So it's only the bezelmaterial and the size then..? Something you really can't tell at a glance.

Thanks for reading the article!

The first Rolex to have a ceramic bezel was the gold GMT-Master II in 2005. So from the mid-2000s until the early 2010s, Rolex had a mix of aluminum bezel sports models and ceramic bezel ones - it just took some years to replace the existing aluminum models with newer ceramic models.

If my memory serves me right, the last aluminum bezel Rolex was the Submariner 14060, which was discontinued in 2012 and replaced by the ceramic Submariner 114060.

Wow, thanks!👍Didn't know the Cermit and the Starbucks is actually the same watch.🤯

·

Very interesting article cannot believe people go nuts over fat o and flat 4 , when I bought my 2005 sub I was offered the Kermit but as you said people weren't use to it so I declined, how about a piece on the explorer series

·

I'm not into Subs overall but the Kermit is on the "coveted" list for me because of that green bezel insert.

·

I have exactly zero thoughts, feelings and/or prayers for this watch...

·

Another excellent article thanks Celine.

I have the Starbucks on my shopping list, but will have to pay grey market as unfortunately I have no history with a Rolex AD. I was on the waiting list with Harrods for the Black Bay (see picture) and it only took 6 months to secure. I love this watch, the green bezel is a bit more vintage than on the Sub.

The 16610LV is perfect. If you have an original LN-insert and put that on - you have the perfect Submariner. Light weight, proportionate, large lume plots and hands, etc.
