What other hobbies do you have besides watches?

I know watch collecting is not the only thing we are all into. What other pointless 🤣hobbies do you have?

Mine is wet shaving. I’ve built up a decent collection of razors and soaps and brushes and what not.

The models are awesome, they look so real.

My wife and I read a lot so we have a huge collection of books in the house. I also paint 28mm scale miniatures but haven't touched the hobby in a few years.

Legos, hats, shoes

I am a big fan of books too. Do you a certain genre you like the most. I like Sci-Fi, my favorite is probably the Hyperion Cantos or the Foundation series (way different than the show).

Shaving is also another hobby for me! Love a fresh shave every morning after a shower, and timing it all on one of my watches!!

I was on book 40-something of the Horus Heresy (warhammer40k) series and stopped for about a year. Now the books are selling for hundreds for some reason and I cant afford to continue it lol

I mostly read fiction but theres a lot of history or historical fiction in my collection.

I'm presently reading the entire collection of Sherlock Holmes and The Terror by Dan Simmons

·

Legos, and oddly crochet and cross-stitching.

Thank you! Photography is another hobby, so taking these pictures is a lot of fun

I used to be a bit of a wet shaving hobbyist, but I settled on a razor, cream and brush, and have not looked back.

I use a Rockwell 6S razor, an Omega Professional Boar hair brush(10098), with Truefitt & Hill Trafalgar cream. I find Rockwell blades are my ideal blade, with Feather being a bit too sharp, and Merkur too hard to find at a reasonable price.

As for books, I'm a Simon Scarrow, Bernard Cornwell, and Steven Erikson fan. I have re-read the Malazan Book of the Fallen series four times... I'm likely to start a fifth re-read next time I deploy.

·

There are other hobbies?

·

Model aviation: R/C and freeflight

Sliderules: modest collection, not adding more

Legos: a few nice sets

Electronics prototyping boards: mostly Arduino and compatibles

Cycling: road, mountain, and cruiser bikes

I have a shaving brush and soap but don’t have a decent razor yet… 😕

When I was in high school and studying architecture in university worked as a dishwasher in our family restaurant so of course I enjoy cooking, trying to recreate recipes that have no set formulas or even an ingredients list. My parents did not want my brother and me to learn cooking afraid that we might end up working in restaurants or food service but assumed that washing dishes would be useful skills or they were too cheap to install a dish washer.

They were probably too cheap. 🤣

I think they also knew that one day I would look back and understand the value of sweating for a living, haha.

True. I think it is good for young peoples first job to require some kind of labor or service. I remember my first chore as a kid was mowing the yard. To this day I still enjoy doing it, and even in middle school, high school and college I did it on and off as a paid job. My first real job at the age of 16 was working at a grocery store.

Pens, glasses, and pu$$ies. Although pens are becoming less and less used because nobody writes shit anymore... We used to at least sign stuff. Now eve that is out of the window ((

·

Fountain pens - that predated watches. I still collect Cuban cigars - all carefully tended - and I’ve stopped smoking !!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I think we all have a gene that makes us do it. As a kid it was fishing gear hahahahaa

lol. It actually doesn’t smell. I have cedar shoe trees in all of them and silica gel packs in each box. Plus, with so many shoes, I don’t ever a pair on consecutive days so I’m not exactly sweating in them.

I dont ever wear any clothing on consecutive days barring some emergency but... I do have cedar shoetrees as well but honestly sometimes lazy to put them on; use them more for long term/seasonal storage. the only think I don't use is silica gel. I should try that as well.

My main hobby now is actually swing dancing, I recently started teaching locally once or twice a week, I recently got selected to choreograph a performance with one of my teaching partners. Outside of swing dancing and watches I collect lego.

Use the challenge to grow as a professional and as a person. It can be stressful at times when you are under pressure and everything that you do needs to be to the highest standard, but the culture is excellent. Identify people you trust that you can ask questions or bounce ideas if you are not sure about anything. Heck if you really need I'm happy to discuss anything if you want a different perspective regarding airworthiness/safety. Also if you are a pilot get to know your maintainers and vice versa, everyone is so much more effective when they understand each other's jobs and pressures and then can really be effective as a team.

Well I really appreciate the advice and the offer. I’m sure I’ll take you up on it at some point.

My dad had a few collections. He told me his mom said everyone should collect something. I think he started on match books and grew into art collecting. I think there’s value in collecting- becoming an expert in something without any real consequence (as long as we don’t go overboard $$ 🥴)

Besides watches, for me I started with pocket knives and vintage leather jackets, and have grown into cigars and motorcycles.
