A Caravelle Christmas

This is my sole acquisition for 2023: 1964 Caravelle. Nothing fancy here but it was a gift from a good buddy who I converted from a smart-watch-only g...

Fantastic! I share your love for bringing old and broken machines back to life 🍻.

Screw down all day everyday.

A few years ago I was in Sweden with my (then) gf. Anxiously fidgeting/spinning the non-screw down crown, I inadvertently set the time back 30 mins causing us to almost miss a train.

Dumb move on my part but wouldn’t have happened with a screw down.

Another benefit is it helps keep the movement clean and free of dust.

Rolex AD’s are already selective about who they’ll sell the most desireable pieces to. So, would they *want* to sell online? I could see how an AD might not, at least for the most in demand watches. Keeping inventory seems to have been a bigger challenge than moving it the last few years.

And assuming the ruling stands and online sales open, what do you think this will do to gray market prices? Do you think more watches will end up in the hands of flippers?

I think the proportions on the 36 (dial) are better but it’s a tad small for my taste and the 40 is by no means oversized. I still think the explorer is one of the best looking watches out there. Tough choice but you really can’t lose.

My dad had a few collections. He told me his mom said everyone should collect something. I think he started on match books and grew into art collecting. I think there’s value in collecting- becoming an expert in something without any real consequence (as long as we don’t go overboard $$ 🥴)

Besides watches, for me I started with pocket knives and vintage leather jackets, and have grown into cigars and motorcycles.

Beautiful piece and a great deal to boot!
