Which would you pick to pair with a Black Bay 58?

I’m deciding if I want to sell my BB36 and SBGW231 for an Explorer 114270. Price wise it’s only slightly more for the Explorer vs those two. I don’t dress up a ton and I think the Explorer works well in dressy situations. Which would you prefer to pair with my BB58 (black gilt)?

Yeah I accidentally voted for the explorer but the other combo is in my opinion the best one ( I actually prefer tudors aesthetic over the explorer)

Maybe even consider a Tudor explorer (that one has an even better look in my opinion)

Why on Earth would you want to sell this gorgeous Grand Seiko and the perfect daily driver that is the BlackBay36 on an Oyster Bracelet to buy the most boring watch of the entire Rolex catalog ?

It should be the guys owning an Explorer dreaming about swapping it for your perfect duo

That’s definitely fair. I do like the 114270 design and lighter weight slightly more than the BB36. But the BB will definitely feel more solid being that’s it much newer. Adding the GS that looks that good for the price does kind of seal the deal.

Do you mean the Ranger?

I would go with Rolex explorer, provided you already have given enough wrist time time to Tudor and gs, I am no watch Nord but can definitely say something going after the Rolex one will definitely be worth it.

I've owned my 114270 for almost 20 years and she still sparkles in my eyes. love the two others too though, and nobody would fault you for choose the 2 over 1 option to have more rotation choices.

imo, this is a no contest as I’d choose/keep the Tudor & Grand Seiko over the Explorer any day. Go with your heart and good luck 🤙❤️

I have a blue BB58 and would go SBGW231. The BB36 would feel to similar to the 58 for me. I think I would take the GS and maybe look for a nice GADA three hander. Sinn 556, Farer, Stowa, Oak & Oscar, and Monta all come to mind for me. Either way, you can’t go wrong with what you’re looking at!

My 36mm Stowa that I’m currently wearing for the 1 Watch Challenge.

I would have voted for the Explorer but only the newer 124270. I am against selling newer watches to buy older ones. Feels wrong somehow.

Plus the older Rolex feel and sound shoddy which is why they don't strike me as good "fancy watch" options (and that's me saying it while competing at #1WC with a 15210 🫣). The Seiko is a much nicer watch than any 5 digit Rolex (the 114270 is technically not a 5 digit Rolex but it feels like one) and better when you are wearing a shirt or similar, in my opinion.

That grand seiko is a piece of art. The BB can go tho. I’d sell the BB and save up till a special occasion and get the explorer.

That’s sort of what I’m leaning towards. New baby on the way, or my 30th in a few years.

I would keep the two everyday of the week

I almost rocked this duo before. I’d say keep the Tudor and GS combo. In me experience, rolex got pretty boring after owning GS’s.

Explorer is an excellent GADA watch, so it works so well with a diver like BB 58. As an outgoing outdoors person like you it's well worth it to keep a well recognized and very popular GADA watch like the Rolex explorer in your watch arsenal. I personally don't like round indices on GADA type watches (on divers they are fine) to me they look like a bit too feminine....🤷‍♂

Yeah I switched the names… but to be fair they are actually really similar, even though I actually prefer the Tudor’s hand set and design overall. That is just my opinion🙃

I wouldn’t say they are that similar. The Ranger is larger, fully brushed straight up tool watch. The Explorer is more of a polished sports watch then tool. I’d compare the Black Bay 36 to the Explorer more than the Ranger.
