If you're unsure, just prevaricate.

I bought mine at £4.170. If it was £5.2k at the time I don’t think I would have. It’s an incredible watch btw so I’m not saying don’t get it.

It’s really tough watching watch prices go up so much. I got my Speedy for significantly less than they are today. So even if I don’t wear it much, it would be hard to get rid of- I doubt I’d be able to justify the new price if I changed my mind.

Wow got mine about a grand less earlier this year … I say go with it no alternatives IMO for this… if you looking at pelagos it’s a different animal and feel …

Have to agree the alternatives listed are not on the same level in my opinion.

If you have any holidays or travel planned I’d advise buying watches somewhere you can save the tax on it e.g. the Middle East.

Because these price hikes are no joke.

And if possible if your buying in the US, Ck out Japan the dollar is still strong so you get a better deal…

My two cents… there is no comparison to the alternatives listed and least where I live, all of them cost just about the same as the Seamaster (except the CW).

BUT… I was in the same boat (the SMP is too big for me) as you and I decided to give the CW a chance. I got the C60 Trident Pro 300. I have been more than pleased with my choice. The watch is very high quality, looks fantastic and more expensive than it is. The quick release bracelet & straps are the clincher. You can’t change those on the fly with the SMP. At 20% of the cost of the SMP, it’s a steal.

CW also has a 60 day return policy no questions asked. Great customer service and communication. Might be worth trying it. Good luck!

·

Yes, CW is tempting. Glad to hear of your favourable experience. Which colour and size did you choose?

·

As others have already said, there isn't an alternative.

Just bite the bullet and get it....the price will only go up, potentially putting it out of reach.

Other advice/opinion would be to buy used & save a fortune - I bought my SM300 used, had a service at Omega and it's like a brand new watch, but £1000 cheaper 😉👍

I see you chose White👍42mm?

Looks great. They seem to offer great value for money.

·

The Christopher Ward is in a completely different price category isn’t it?

Totally. Completely different proposition but seem to offer good value and I have heard positive views about them for some time now.

Same. Speedy is my grail and they released the new one in 2021 at $6300. Checked the other day and it’s $6600. It’s like chasing a rabbit!

Well the only real alternative in your list is the Pelagos 39/42 the rest aren’t divers. Gotta say I prefer the look of the Tudor over the Omega. Don’t think you’d be making an unwise purchase at the retail price point of either.

Tried both Pelagos too. Liked them, though need to size bracelet properly to get a firm view. 39 would be my choice of the two, but quite close.

Is it worth is, absolutely. Can you find an alternative for less, absolutely as well. What I've found is that if you are set on a particular luxury piece and you can afford it, you can do no wrong buy buying it if you're heart and mind are in the right place and it's something you truly want. I bought an Aquaterra as my first grail watch and have zero regrets to this day because it was THE watch I wanted.

There are plenty are more affordable alternatives including the CW Sealander, a Lorier Neptune, Tudor Black Bay (a 58 imo), and Squale. All are great dive watches!

Yeah, I get they're charging more because they can, and that's business and all, but as a watch enthusiast, it sucks.

Worth it

Went to a local Omega AD to pick up an accessory and was told the price increase is coming in a few weeks in US as well.

SM 300 or even better SM 600 PO models, if you can find one you like, grab it before the price increases. Dollar for dollar, it is a better build watch, especially the SM 600 PO models than the Rolex Subs or Blancpain 50F, at a fraction of the price. I know because I own all three.

Omega SM 600 PO is the best value performance pick now, 2nd by the SM 300. You can’t go wrong with either. AT is nice, but for what it is, already overpriced in comparison to SM 300/600.

Best of luck !

·

Yes it is.

·

If you are willing to consider Seamaster 600 Planet Ocean, there are multiple sizes you can choose from: 37.5, 39.5, 42, 44.

·

You'll have some pocket change left if you go with CW.
