What’s your favorite SEIKO movement and why?

My favorite SEIKO movement is the NH35!

It’s in most if my watches in my collection.

It has proven its durability, agility and worth living in loads and loads of casses keeping time.

It is one of the most and I think it might be the most famous automatic movement.

I think everyone of us had at least one in their watche.

So tell me! What’s your favorite SEIKO movement and why?

Mines the 6139 the Pogue, the first automatic chronograph.

Ignoring vintage and GS, I’m pretty much with you on the NH35. I have it in loads of watches and it’s great. I don’t blink if I see it on the specs so long as the pricing is sensible.

It’s way better than the Miyota 8 series which seem to compete with it - I’m done with them, not because of reliability but just the rotor noise.

I do believe it’s very affordable! But some of mine hit +- 0 seconds a day and the most out of tune one hits + 15! It really is durable and dependable.

I am saying that to know more why don’t you think that it won’t be picked for the specs. Tell me more 🙌🏼

Mine’s the 6R35, because I love having to guess how many seconds out it’s going to be each day.

Will it be +1? Will it be -17? Will it be +25? Who can say?!

So much fun!

Sorry I meant if I see “NH35” as the specified movement then I don’t blink (i.e. no cause to hesitate) provided it’s priced fairly. Like you I have had no issues with accuracy, which isn’t really surprising as I rotate pretty much daily.

Whereas if I see a Miyota 8 series specified then I will move swiftly on.

The 6L37 is superb.

Yeah, in reviews the NH35 is always described as a “reliable workhorse”, which is often followed by “but it’s not as desirable or premium as X movement”. But the reviewers typically don’t say why. I guess thinness, longer power reserve, higher beat rate, and nicer finish can be advantages of more sophisticated movements, but those seem to be minor incremental improvements when compared to reliability.

·

The 4r36. My dresskx runs 5 secs a day slow, must have gotten very lucky!

·

I like both 6R and 4R movements but my Favourite is my 9F high accuracy Quartz

-10 and +10 seconds per year ^_^

I have 2 Alpinists with the 6R35 movement in them, the timekeeping is all over the place!🫤. I sent one of them back under warranty as it was a consistent -30 seconds a day, they fitted a new movement, now it's at around -20 a day 😢. I've just accepted that the movements are just not that good. But.... the watches look fantastic and I love wearing them anyway...!

With a liitle work all of my nh35’s and nh34’s sre running +-2 secs a day or better. I have started building homages of all the watches I dream about and am happy with that. I definitely will never own a Rolex but I am able to enjoy the designs

Mine is the 5M85 kinetic gmt, such a unique movement that I doubt will ever be used again.

They are that good but you have to get a timegrapher and learn to adjust or pay someone to do it.

Agree yes, it's just finding someone trustworthy to do the adjustment

I like doing my own but there is a learning curve. Expect to mess up a movement or two but they only cost $20-40. So if you mess up it costs less than paying someone to do it.
