I was going to wear the Darth Maul watch today for #whimsicalwednesday, but the strap broke where it holds the buckle in.
Such is the problem with a 25 year old faux-leather-bonded-to-plastic-fantastic-strap when you find the watch NOS.
I was going to swap the strap with another of the straps in this set, but...
...this watch out of the 4 in the set has this attached male end link thing AND it does not use a spring bar.
So now I'm almost to the point where I want to get a custom stamped strap for each watch in the set.
Each strap is going to probably cost double (or more) than what I paid for the whole set. LOL
Such is life on the bargain end of watch enthusiasm, I guess.
Show me your most illogical strap replacement and share the story why you decided to do it if you'd like.

Not really a strap replacement per se, but to some highly illogical. This is a Gen I Orient Defender I got way back in the day from Joma Shop. Even then it was like $99US or less. This WOE x Zulu Alpha is a pricey strap, $145US. But I like the way it matches the style, so crazy? Maybe, but I like it so whatever 😂.
Bond NATO on a F-91w…cause I wanted to roll like James Bond but on a Jim Beam budget

A lot of people have this bias that the strap (a seemingly low tech part of the watch package) should always cost less than the watch head. I have been one of them. I understand the line of thinking.
However, when you get a strap/bracelet that makes the watch more fun or more comfortable, why wouldn't you do it?
I'm thinking of getting some suede straps with 'MTFBWY' engraved on them and then doing my own leather stamping or having someone do all of it.
And that strap on yours matches the esthetic so well. It appears to be money well spent.

Those are such a PIA to put straps on right?

Totally agree. Not to quite the same extreme but did the same thing for the watch my wife got me for our wedding. It's an long discontinued Orient Sapphire White dial. Wife likes honey colored leather so we got a handmade leather strap for it. Looked 👌🏻, but strap was most the price of the watch.

Yep, if you look close enough, you'll see the gouges in the case where I was using the spring bar tool.😜 Now, it's my daughter's problem as she's claimed the watch.

First time I did this to one I had, ended up slipping and the prong bit my finger, hard. Wife ROFL'd, since in spite of job stuff, I only ever seem to break or bleed doing stupid things like strap replacements or setting mousetraps....🫠

Honestly, spring bars and the tools associated with them are the work of devil. Every watch should come with drilled lugs or quick release straps. You can etch that on my tombstone cause I'll be saying that everyday until I shuffle off this mortal coil.
You have to take great care in your occupation. Hope you get hazard pay. I'm imagining you as Jeremy Renner in The Hurt Locker.

We do, amongst other pays.
And I do own a black hoodie....🤔....
...but don't think my mug is Hollywood approved and can't quite pull off the scowl, life is too short and I smile too much...😂😎🤣
On the tombstone thing, yup me too. I could care less if it "detracts" from a dress watch. I. Like. Drilled. Lugs.
Baltic seems to be paying attention btwd. Their dressier options have drilled lugs.

You do what you do so no one else has to...and people can go home in one piece. Very honorable.
You're behind a mask/face shield anyways, no one will see your face 😜. But your attitude is right, life is short, be happy.
How much is the strap that you're looking at? You could just buy the whole watch again:

I've thought about it, but it will still have the same problem. Degraded straps that weren't made to last this long.

Yes.
I've put NATOs on a couple Casio digitals & it's usually a really tight fit.
Maybe a transplant from this donor:

[EDIT] Whoops, didn’t see the whole “male end link, and no springbar” part
JEEZ forget Wonder Woman's bracelets; if I'm in a fight I want this spiked Star Wars ball of death on my wrist!

The spikes are rubber.
I know, I was also disappointed.
I was gifted an A168 on a rough looking faux leather strap. The cost of the Casio replacement seemed outrageous for what you're getting, so I took my even more expensive Forstner bonklip off my CWC and now I've got a jangly A168. The logic doesn't work out but I liked the look and feel of it.
Bonklips are so funky and minimalistic cool. I think it looks great on that A168.

It feels like something you'd get out of a gumball machine. Have been going back and forth with this and the black 168WE bracelet.
How do you read the time on that thing?

That's a problem for 20 years later. 👌

NOS does not mean brand new straps just cuz the item is still in original packaging.
The straps are pretty much in the same condition out of the box as the one I have now.

Oh that's too bad then.. 🙁

Hot diggity 😳

For some reason I feel like I need an A167, so I can justify a Forstner...👌🏻
OMG, now that’s some watch!!!!
Bond NATO on a F-91w…cause I wanted to roll like James Bond but on a Jim Beam budget
If you get a NATO that is wider than the lug width and then cut/melt four notches, to allow the strap to fit, then you end up with a really lovely integration of the watch face and strap.
Here are my Timex IronMan and F-91W on oversize NATOs.
