Cool post. I have that feeling with g shocks. Bought many but just never bonded with most and didn't wear them.

Will I ever get a other g shock?

Probably, but right now big nooooo.

Good read, even if I am of a different mind about G Shocks. 😃

I only have squares and I’m a gen X’er so it’s nostalgia for me…I have yet to get anything modern

·

Your issue with the resin and metal straps might be solved with a canvas strap 2100 like mine... #justsaying

As much as I love my square, I only wear it on my tougher jobs. Even with all the functions they a missing a certain something sometimes

Perfectly said.

I have two G Shocks. They aren't bad, but I prefer the readability, and use-ability of the Protrek line.

Maybe due to the G's history, or even yes, authenticity, people are drawn to them. But there's better options out there.

A Marathon GPD ADANAC for basic, no nonsense, tough Digital. And the gamut of Protrek models. If really wanting a navigational tool, there's Suunto.

Negative LCD screens are a pain to read in bright sun. And if I'm wearing a huge digital, I might as well have a compass, altimeter, and barometer.

YMMV.

Excellent read, cheers.

I used G-Shock for many years, I wasn't really into the hobby (1990's) but they served me well as indestructible tools - had one I'd strap on my cross brace near my speedo during off road motorcycle races, hose down afterwards and put back on my wrist.

That's the point. They're genuine tools. And not many folks get enthusiastic about a spanner (or wrench as Americans call them) , outside of the Snap-On fans.

I've zero interest in G-Shocks anymore, because I'm older and my lifestyle doesn't demand something that tough. I'm pretty certain I'd break way before my Seiko's or Omega's!

It's sounds like you're ready for the Modding Phase of the G-Shock Ownership. You already have the watches and outgrown the resin. It's time to see what's out there and get some more milage from them.

Casio and straps huh ! You would think, or hope, that at Casio HQ the guys would say "what's the biggest gripe with our watches" but they don't. I have 2 G's one is more comfy that the other but both straps could be improved for not much more money at Casio's etd. On a personal note with a G you have to try before you buy if at all possible. The metal G's are great but suddenly the reasonable price goes up by quite a bit, but I do like them.
