Thanks to Russ @Stracerwatches23 I am now the temporary but proud custodian of the Casio MRW. It has safely made it across the border and awaits the adventures that start tomorrow!

Day 1

It seems fitting to start our watch journey in the City of Dundee that used to be home to the Timex factory which came to the city in 1946 and closed in 1993 amid a turbulant time of industrial action.

Breakfast first and to acclimatise the watch to it's next leg and get my Canadian wife's instant coffee, a visit to Tim Hortons was in order!

Image

A quick photostop at Discovery Point and the V&A Museum.

Image
Image

So,

@SpecKTator was hoping for a visit to St Andrews. I'm assuming for the golf connection but, this being Scotland, there are amazing courses everywhere. A quick stop at Carnoustie Championship Course to introduce the Casio to a Rolex or 2.

Image
Image
Image

Next stop for me is Arbroath. The historic ruins of the Abbey where the Declaration of Arbroath was written during the First War of Scottish Independence during the reign of Robert the Bruce.

Image

The coastline of the northeast is characterized by dramatic cliffs, golden sandy beaches, and picturesque fishing villages. The area boasts stunning natural landmarks such as the towering cliffs of Dunnottar Castle, perched precariously on a rocky headland overlooking the North Sea.

Image

Come back tomorrow for Day 2 when we head up the coast to Inverness.

Day 2

Not much in the way of pictures today as my workload was too busy! But, our the little Casio made it up to Inverness with some stops along the way.

Did find a moment to take this one at Slains Castle said to be inspiration for the setting of Bram Stokers Dracula. When seen from the nearby small town of Cruden Bay on a stormy night I can well believe it.

Image

Day in the office tomorrow, fingers crossed the mod I ordered arrives in the post.

Day 3

Office day today but all is good as the mod arrived in the post. I was surprisingly impressed with the little Casio and I bought one for myself to remember my paticipation in the journey. Ideal hillwalking and camp watch.

Image

But @benandwatch is itching to hear about the mod!

Well, I'm not a big fan of the Casio strap. So I initially put it on an 18mm nato I had in my strap case and it just didn't look right. Ebay to the rescue with some 18mm to 22mm lugs!

Image
Image

I did also order a Scottish flag nato but it appears that Royal Mail has mislaid my package. Hopefully it will arrive before I pass the Casio on. In the meantime here it is on a black nato and I have to say it wears really well.

Image
Image

A rather conservative mod but one that opens up a few possibilities. Watch will be passed on with the original strap in the box and it would be nice when it finishes its journey if all bits removed/added to it are with it at the end.

Hello Mark this is fantastic, thank you so much for the care and attention to the message you sent out, i love that you have modded the watch and put thought into what you wanted to do, the strap does indeed look very smart thank you for doing this 😀👍 @Deeperblue this new post needs to be sent out to all to see, the Casio travelling watch is in Scotland and enjoying some modding.

@Max this is brilliant

·

Day 4

Well last post from me. The strap came in and has been fitted. Tomorrow I'll fill in the book, package everything up and send the watch onto Canada on Monday.

Image

Today I took a trip into the city centre to visit the Art Gallery,

Image
Image

take a look at the newly completed Union Terrace Gardens,

Image
Image

before a spot of lunch and an amble around some jewellers to window shop.

Image

The AD didn't seem to realise that the Casio is God Tier and kept giving me funny looks as I discussed the price of the watches with my wife. 😂

Well it's been fun having the Casio and I look forward to following it's ongoing adventures around the world.

Thank you Mark this looks amazing 🤩 did you end up buying anything or mention the story of the watch?

No, I have a self imposed ban on buying any more watches this year. 🤯

Nearly bought a Bulova (and my wife didn't even object!) but resisted the impulse. Came home researched it and decided I made the right decision.

·

Which bulova? I like the moon one, I think I’m the same, no more watches for now haha 😂

It was an open heart one, good price, but Miyota movement. I think I prefer the Orient Bambino open heart. I can list off a number of watches I would rather have all significantly more expensive. So going to save my pennies and do one bigger purchase next year.

My wife is Canadian and we don't have a Tim's in our city yet. (Quite a few in the UK now). I just go there to wind her up when I'm in Dundee 😉
