I've just always been drawn to them. I remember always seeing them in stores as a kid and enjoying looking at them in the case. I got a Timex from Santa as a kid that I wore a lot. Then in High School I had a Fossil watch I remember being obsessed with. It stopped working and I kinda got away from watches for close to 10 years after that. Jumped back into the world of watches at the beginning of 2020 am still here 🤷♂️.
Q: What was the first watch you ever owned?
"Santa" gave me a Timex Ironman watch when I was a kid. No idea what happened to it, sadly. I just remember it was a digital watch. Teal with red buttons, and a Velcro loop strap. I wore that thing 24/7/365. I was looking around online for it one day recently and it turns out it was probably a womens watch 😂.
Q: Do you have a watch with a particularly interesting story behind it?
Maybe my Zelos? I was obsessed with the Aurora Field Ti in Teal as soon as I saw one. I was looking forward to trying to snag when the July 2023 release came along. I found out Zelos rarely releases the same colorway twice. When I learned this, I had pretty much given up hope I'd ever own one.
Since I was already mentally prepared to spend the money on the July release of the Zelos watches, I threw a desperation post up on the Zelos Facebook page to see if anyone was selling the model I wanted. I got a reply within 12 hours. Some dude hade one unworn in factory condition. I jumped on that as quickly as I could. Paid a bit more than it's probably worth, but I love it!
Q: What is one piece of advice you have for someone just getting into watches?
Don't rush it. Take your time and really learn about what's out there before making a purchase.
Personally, I like to wait at least 2 months before I decide to make a purchase. If I'm still thinking about it after that, I feel like that means I really like the piece.
Q: What brands have been getting your attention lately?
Doxa, Certina, Tudor, & Zelos.
Q: What is your grail watch and why?
Doxa Sub300 Carbon in Whitepearl.
Doxa has one of the most interesting history's in all of horology. I've never been a huge fan of how they looked, until they released the Whitepearl version of the Sub300 Carbon series. The white dial paired with the black carbon/resin case along, with the white rubber strap is a look that's right up my ally. The full lume effect the dial in lowlight is just icing on the cake.
