Do you recommend the Yema superman 500 ?

Hi, I am hesitating about buying the yema superman 500 in 39mm. I love the vintage and diving look of this watch. Furthermore, being french, i like the fact that this is a french brand !

However I saw many bad reviews about the brand in general (bad quality control, lack of customer service) and about the manufactured movement used (Yema 2000, which is sometimes criticized for not being very accurate). In addition to this, because of the lug to lug of 48mm, I am scared of my wrist being too thin (~16cm diameter).

Whats your opinion on this watch ? What are its pros and cons ? Does it worth its price ?(being between 1200€ and 1300€ at the moment)

Personally I think wouldn’t as there are so many watches available to you in that price range, with better heritage and arguably quality. Doxa 300, Tissot Seastar come to mind.

But you can’t put a price tag on a watch that fits your aesthetic or comes from your home country…

If you are looking for a great watch from France isnt Baltic French too?

·

I have the quartz version and while I love the look, the bracelet (H link) is lacking. Not enough micro adjustments, it's a major pain to resize, and the clasp is too rough to open. Other than the bracelet, it's a great piece.

·

I have two modern Yema watches, one with a 1000 movement and one with a 2000 movement. I’ve had no problems at all with either watch regarding QC, so I cannot speak to the company’s customer service. Neither watch is COSC accurate, but they are both accurate enough for me (within about 10 seconds per day). I would buy another if the price were right…

Which gets me to my complaint with the brand. At MSRP, I think they are overpriced for what you are getting. Both of mine were purchased during a sale and were deeply discounted (at least 40 percent off). I wouldn’t spend more than say $500-$600 for a Yema, and there are many, many other watches I would buy at €1200 or more. I wouldn’t even consider a Yema at that price.

·

Christopher Ward Aquitaine comes to mind in this price bracket and styling.

Though, 48mm lug to lug will probably work if your wrists are a bit flat on the top.

Wolbrook/Douglas

Not 100% made in France, but definitely finished and regulated. Plus they have very good shock protection, and have real history with their test pilot and skin diver Heritage.

New Skindiver II Destro looks 👌🏻

I happen to own both an aquascaphe and a doxa 300. Both are outstanding. Based on your preference for french and your wrist size, the Baltic is an outstanding match. Awesome quality and wears smaller than the measurements suggest. Fantastic watch. I will be adding the new bronze version to my collection soon. I would add that the Baltic has superior build quality when compared to my zodiacs and doxa that cost way more.

They can be pricey, I have a Navygraf I got used at about $400, felt like the right price for what I’ve gotten. Fun watch, French, but a little rough in finishing of the bracelet.

The CS thing comes up from time to time. As I said in this post about my Bronze Superman:

https://www.watchcrunch.com/complication/posts/any-love-for-the-yema-burgundy-bronze-superman-36291

I'd seen some horror stories online, but between reading between the lines and noting that some of the people complaining sounded like serial pains in the arse and would probably moan about anything, and the fact that I've never - truly - needed customer service on a watch ever in my life, I thought what the heck. Very happy with the watch itself. The CS may well be terrible, but I doubt I will ever deal with it.

And as I said in this very recent thread, specifically asking about the brand:

https://www.watchcrunch.com/ToastyBread/posts/is-yema-a-good-brand-of-watches-42152

Yema owner here; Burgundy Bronze Superman. A great watch, especially at the price point.

Some people have criticised the customer service on social media in the past, and it's now become one of those Internet things where, if someone mentions Yema, you get people (who don't own Yema watches, mind you), swarming in and declaring, "Customer service issues! Customer service issues!" and wobbling their head and running off, but dig below the surface and you will quickly find they have no experience.

I've written a long piece on this topic before, but the TL;DR version is, how many times have you needed the CS from a watch company? In many years, and dozens of watches, I never have, personally. So one of the things I considered when thinking about Yema and had the usual swarm of, "Customer service issues! Customer service issues!" people who don't actually own Yema watches, I thought to myself, "Even if these people are 100% right - which I actually doubt - will I ever use CS? Probably not!" And I bought the watch.

I love it. Well made. Looks good. Runs like a champion.

Thank you for giving your opinion ! Tbh I am not searching for an alternative at the same price. I just love design despite of the price. I have other watches in mind which are completely different but i would love to have (as you said can't put a price tag on a watch you love)

I have thid brand in mind yes, especially the aquascaphe titanium. But same problem as the yema, it seems to be overpriced in my opinion (because of the movement inside). However I am still thinking about buying it !

Yea, I think the better option is to wait until there are big sales and new models coming (hoping the superman 500 will get "old" and yema will lover their prices on those models)

CS can vary from csr to csr especially with a microbrand ..when you buy mixcro its one of the few things you may run into inconsistent CS . New Small companies dont have big staffs so service wil vary. I own quite a few micro Isotope watches and their aservice is superb so it varies.

Yema typically have a sale during most of November; perhaps they will discount your watch during that sale.

The Yema Superman 500 is my most worn watch. I swim with it all summer and wear out on most days. I have literally no complaints about it. Ask Yema for a discount they always tend to offer some sort of promotion.
