That is good news so I agree with the others that battery size could be wrong. Battery contacts might need cleaning or gentle bending to make contact. Is the crown and pin in correctly? If all else fails a little 'percussion therapy' might dislodge whatever dirt could be stopping it. Last resort that one for me, though I am surprised by how many I have got going that way. Otherwise a professional cleaning/repair. Good luck.
I do like your G10! I had forgotten that 19year old, 2nd Lt me, had one in 1989. Had to give it back when going into full time naval service, which eventually meant Seiko Gen 1 and then 2. Many moons later I had to give that back too! Only the military after many years of service, don't give a watch but actually want one from you! Lol.
