Your mug on your profile

What is wrong with putting an anonymous picture as your screen moniker instead of your actual head ?!? I believe you need to own your comments and opinions and wear the face that will be smiled upon or spat at . Is is a type of cowardice or something else that stops / prevents people sharing their face on this platform? Fear of Robbery might be a good excuse or being famous maybe ? Thoughts and opinions, hey vitriol if constructive even . Critical opinions are best serving a purpose of education.

I value privacy. That's really all there is to it. 🤷‍♂️

·

Its interesting you bring this up. On other social media platforms I usually don’t mind using pictures that show my face. When I joined WatchCrunch I noticed that wasn’t really the norm so I guess I just fell in with the crowd?

Here I am 😀

Prefer my avatar as I think it says more about who I am.

Cool to put a face to the names tho 👍

Yeah I haven’t minded , just the odd snide comments some people can make that are condescending or a bit spiteful or belittling, When someone ( rare ) does this I notice its always “ anonymous “

Still happy to see your great smile and your watch :)

I had someone on a different platform google image my face and dox me. It’s not terribly hard to do if you are hell bent on it, even without a pic, but it’s not cool.

There were no threats of violence, but they did pull images of my kids and post them, which is bizarrely creepy.

Gotcha I see what you’re saying. Yeah, folks can feel empowered to say whatever when they can hide behind being anonymous I agree. I don’t see the point of being rude we all just wanna enjoy watches! Well, here’s my mug lol.

In my line of business it is simply not advisable.

That’s a reasonable response sorry to hear this, I am not on any other social media to be gotten at . That’s really rotten .

That’s a sad thing today that your visage can be weaponised

Good answer , did you see my old grizzly mug ? 😂

I took my meme from my Twitter profile. I hate usually how I look in photos so I don’t wanna stare at me here and in the mirror. Kidding/not kidding my problem is that being stuck in a wheelchair has never led to posture advantageous for producing good photos.

Johnny It’s still nice to meet tou brother , when you comment it’s still nice to smile back at all the kids in the sandbox and appreciate you sharing your stories and thoughts

With me enough information has been leaked, mainly thanks to Equifax in 2017, that you can tie information back to me with almost any of my personal data. I'm also active in the community, so I cannot fully suppress pictures. So yeah, my picture will lead to my address in less than 5 minutes. At the same time there are some regulatory requirements pertaining to my work, which led me to also avoid social networks that require any form of verification.

It's not that I actually want this, but data leaks by 3rd parties and work-related requirements have put me into this position.

Sorry to hear that , and still I appreciate you ! Your comments and musings , I still will

look forward to reading and considering your opinions and observations. I’m not holding anything valuable with my small collection I suppose too , I understand many high end collectors and this little post was more aimed at us little fish not the High end collectors whom I love their posts ( Jae and Paul, Claude and Per for instance ) you know who you are and yep don’t need to see everyone’s face . I was hoping for all of us to play nice and share our love of watches thats really all I am getting at .

Yes, this is definitely a very lovely niche, a small corner of the internet that is unusually friendly. The collectors you mentioned are also very knowledgeable and easy to get along with, very different from certain other watch-related blogs or forums. I'm glad you joined.

·

Glad you did too 🙂 nice to meet you Marty , call me Dave 🙂

No I don’t have a high opinion of humanity, the internet is a pretty clear reflection of humanity to my mind

The internet is as far removed from humanity as it can be. I suggest that you disable most of your "devices" and , maybe, take a walk or something.

All perspectives aren’t the same depending on your life experience or military experiences . I am trying to understand your position

I feel you my friend and totally agree

But can understand why people prefer not to although there’s not much privacy online

Cheers 🍻

Although my actual face does not appear on my profile, what you DO see is actually a form of identification.

Because what you see is my heraldic badge, a unique and registered piece of artwork that identifies me, and by association, my immediate family.

From my genealogy and heraldry website:

BLAZON (BADGE): Argent, a Swan displayed proper in front of a Rose Gules, barbed Vert, within an Annulet Vert, a Semy of Crosses clechy.

SYMBOLISM (BADGE): The badge has the same basic symbolism as the crest in that the badge contains the crest within a surrounding annulet; the crosses which appear on the annulet symbolize the Christian faith, and serve to remind the armiger that no matter in which direction that life takes him, the Lord is there to meet him.

I already have cameras installed on my house in. They were necessary. I don't recommend that type of expose on the internet, myself (or anyone who doesn't have bad intentions for that matter) has nothing to gain. It obviously depends on where you live and what you do how much at risk you are. I don't do Instagram or any other social platform with pictures.

I avoid sharing anything that you could easily link to myself or my home which includes taking WRUW pictures in places that are either non trivial to identify or away from home. For the same reason I am quite unlikely to ever attend a meet up. Maybe I am crazy, but I am okay with that.
