It's not my fault... I have been reasonably well controlled with my watch buys this year. Two new additions despite so much temptation. But pride comes before the fall.
I was on holiday enjoying the sunshine and a negroni. A little drunk and a little bored waiting for my daughter to finish at the kids club. Logged on to a watch auction site to see what was going on with Rolex prices ๐. Then I saw this 2000 Blancpain ultra slim - 8.4mm thin, automatic, 100 hour power reserve, two barrels in parallel, silvered applied Breguet numerals a small seconds. For a while now I have been lusting after a Breguet white enamel 5177 and this was ticking those same boxes.
So I put in a cheeky bid and forgot about it. Picked up my daughter and delighted that I was bidding to lose. The next day I am the proud owner of a new watch.
I picked up the watch today and very happy with the new addition to the family. Exactly what I was looking for in a white office watch. And ยฃ10,000 cheaper than the Breguet.
A moment of boredom transmogrified into a thing of beauty. I'll be checking that auction site a lot more ๐๐

Thank you. Never had a watch this thin before. Feels great on the wrist.
Thatโs a stunner, great buy!
As i have been trying to establish myself as the resident BlacnPain shill on here: Amazing choice. I'm loving it on the strap you have it on, and as much as it's dial, indices, and hands convey a sense of elegant yet minimalistic beauty- what is going on behind the scenes with the Movement is pure craftsmanship. BP's internally are just amazing to gawk at with the amount of craftsmanship put into each and every piece: And whilst their RRP isn't the best- buying them second hand is usually a solid choice and at great pricing for the amount of watch you're getting.
Welcome to the BP club

Thank you. Happy to join tbe club. The one thing I do wish the watch had is a display caseback so that you can see the amazing movement.
The strap is from #delugs. It came with the original strap but my skinny wrists dont work well with stock straps.

I've noticed a trend recently with their limited editions to at least offer Exhibition more commonly. Time will tell when the entirety of the modern lineup from BP will have that option.

The movement is great horology in terms of specs. Do you know what the finishing is like on these movements? Are they hand finished?
Love that dress watch!
Love that dress watch!
Thank you. Looking forward to wearing it to the office on Monday.
i love a small seconds...

Yes I am enjoying how elegant that small seconds is. It's my first, but definitely not the last.
Do you have a favorite small seconds execution?
Congrats, great piece you have there. May I ask what auction site that was?
A beautiful piece of art, there are very few automatics that are thin these days,I keep banging on about my Titoni fetish but their watches from the 60โs through to the 80โs were typically 10.5 mm & that includes a domed acrylic crystal. Can I ask which auction site & was there any authentification provided? Iโm interested in trying an auction but gun shy about being sold a fake. Enjoy the BP it really is a gorgeous watch.
What a pick up
That Blancpain is pure class. Sure it belongs to the Swatch group but they are a top tier brand and I would never hesitate if one was available at the right price. Congratulations on your purchase!
Congrats on your new baby! ๐ถ๐
An amazing purchase Itโs a real shame that Blancpain discontinued so many of their classic dress watches in recent years! Congrats!

Thanks. Really happy with this beautiful oops.
It is a shame that outside the FF blancpain lost a clear style. And unfortunately the FF is not so user friendly. I the Leman aqualung is a stunning sports watch that would look amazing in 2024.
Congrats on your new baby! ๐ถ๐
Thank you. Loving the new addition.
Great pick-up. A similar story happened to me 2-3 weeks ago and now I'm an owner of a Zenith I have been after for years LOL
I love that breguet though. On my grail list
Let us know if it scratches the itch or you're gonna still long for that Breguet
This watch has definitely extinguished the Breguet flame. I can't justify an extra ยฃ10k for an enamel dial. It is a beautiful watch but my wife would kill me if she saw it in the watch box.
Beautiful watch. What site was it on? Want to start doing the same kind of browsing
Watchcollecting.com
The Breguet numerals look stunning on that watch. Congratulations! Do you know the Ref. Number?
The ref number looks like 1161112755

it's that much difference? Wow!
I had the same dilemma between Octofinissimo and Octo L'originale, and the latter certainly lowered the flame but didn't extinguish it completely because while I got the shape and the sculptured case, I didn't get the thinness... I think you may continue wanting the enamel dial... but the problem is the price differential, you are absolutely correct here.
Beauty - congrats.

Hahaha. This is going to be a very expensive strategy for me.
The auction site is mainly rolexes so I can't get into tooo much trouble.
Transmorgrified!!!! Love it!! It goes to show that a little alcohol and a cheeky bid can lead to great things!!!๐ I've also looked at Blancpain to compare to the Breguet Classique but haven't pulled the trigger on either as yet. Congratulations on your win!!!!
Tbh honest the enamel dial on the Breguet is stunning. That being said, I am still very very happy with the Blancpain.
Let me know how you decide between the two
