I'll just leave this here.

And repeat a hundred times. I don't need another watch.

Good luck with that 😂

On the same man:

Often when he looked at the multitude of wares exposed for sale, he would say to himself, ‘How many things I can do without!’

·

I think this is the wrong platform and group of people for Socrates, 😆

·

Ha, just yesterday I thought it might be an interesting long term exercise to try and sell one watch every year while buying none. None of the watches that I want at this point will ever be within my budget so what the hell 😅

In 10y I should be down to just a few and the long periods between sales mean that the decision what to sell can be made patiently.

Sounds like crazy talk but I am considering it 😮

Although my response was tongue and cheeks, you don't say to watch collectors to stop 😂 Also the watch industry does not want to hear it. There is a bit of dark truth to it. One must know Socrates demise as he was executed by his peers for "corrupting the youth" with his philosophy... this was narrated by Pluto in "Phaedo". If you are interested, "The death of Socrates" is a great read.

Easy for Socrates to say.

There wasn't any cool stuff 2,500 years ago.

“Died from another sort of vermin” yes the Senate , I just finished reading Marcus Aurelius Meditations . Also talked about us all being one mind reflected in a multitude. This did not go down well with the Senate , telling young people that you have nothing to fear from Authority if you understand this idea. I am paraphrasing…

It all seems easy when you sell the first one, but after u get the money of first one and get to sell the second there comes a new release of Seiko in a black friday.

Well, that's why I would't sell the second one soon but in almost 2 years time. That way I am already used to not buying watches. I think I would rebound if I sold 10 watches at once, but if I do it over 10 years... 😉 you still might be right but I think I could make it work.

·

2500 years ago you couldn't by a spring drive watch accurate to a second a month..I'm as guilty as anyone

I felt that in my Socratesticles.

This deserves a "three snare drum hits + cymbal" emoji but I don't see one.

If I was on my deathbed tomorrow and had to list all of my regrets in life... buying a watch wouldn't be one of them.

On his deathbed, my frugal grandfather sold me his watch.

·

Hey Soc old buddy, does this apply to the appreciation of art and beauty?

It sure is. I come to this site to get away from philosophy. What'll be next, financial common sense??

I read the quote by Socrates and didn't know if I understood it or if I agreed with it or not. I asked my friend Moore what he thought. He agreed. Then I asked my other friend Les. He disagreed. I carefully considered both responses, and decided I wanted more of Les and less of Moore. Now I understand!

·

Yes, I don't need another watch... until a week or so passes. Then I can try and justify another purchase 🙃
