I do wish we could create polls with more options. I definitely would have added ‘no date’ if I had another option. Though, I might have been a bit whimsical and pit it as “On a wall calendar”.

At least it's not one of those yes/no "polls" or one of the battle polls pitting Rolex against Baltany or Patek vs. D. Wellington.

·

I have examples of all of those and they all work for the watch they are on.

But if given the option I'll take the no date version every time.

I really don’t understand the point of those, and don’t usually vote in them unless they happen to list a brand I truly love. But those polls are kind of subjective, because the listed brands are all quality (ideally). Whether you prefer Rolex or Omega really comes down to personal preference, or perhaps AD experiences (as in my case).

You sir, would drive marketing researchers nuts! Love that hair dice and slicing you did there!

No Date is better

let's be real, this is what we all want:

It’s one element of many that makes up a watch design and there is no right or wrong answer that applies across all watches. Where (or if) it’s placed should be determined by where it is in balance (or tension) with the other elements of the watch.

·

when i saw the Tag glass box chronograph with the date window at 12 o’clock, my first thought was “oh that’s neat. you don’t see that very often” but i quickly realized why we don’t see it often. when the chronograph is not in use, the resting seconds hands just cover up the date window! 👎🏼

Agreed. But I was speaking generally with this poll. For myself, I dislike almost all 4-5 date windows. That said, one of my favorite watches has an asymmetric dial with a date window at ‘4-5’, which demonstrates that even if one generally dislikes a specific position there are exceptions.

Twelve sounds terrible 😂

No doubt this is perfect for this dial

·

I voted 4-5 o'clock, and from my 5 watches, two have the date there.... 🤦Not a biggie!

·

I think it depends on the watch. Some watches look cool with a nice date window, some look better without.

But... But 6 or 12 is symmetrical, right guys?!

·

More symmetrical than the other positions yes. Most date windows aren’t a deal breaker for me, but it’s still something that I never use so it’s superfluous for me. But I do have watches with date windows in various places. I just always choose no date if there’s a choice.

Has there ever been a watch with a 9 o'clock date? If so, I'm going into exile and becoming a watch monk, because that will break me.

The Rolex left handed does.

Depends. I love my Breitling Crosswind Special with the Big Date complication:

I dig this dial layout!

·

I don't mind any of these aside from 12, but I'm not sure I've ever seen that. If you're going to have a full day of the week at 12, I can understand putting the date under it or something, but date alone at 12 just seems off.

Scroll up. I posted a pic of my Breitling that is a good 12, imho.

It was in the "show 12 more comments" that I skipped over. Tucking it between the hands and the 12 index is a better way to do it, I think, like that watch. I'm just not a fan of removing the most important index on the dial.

Understandable. But with the thinner baton style hands it is rather nice on the eyes.

Growing kinda partial to 6 o'clock date windows. Not a fan of the cyclops look though
