“Right” handed Sprite GMT

Hey Watch People,

I am wondering if you could Frankenstein a left handed Rolex Sprite GMT (126720VTNR) into a right handed watch by taking off the bezel and putting it on another Rolex GMT Master II. Also if possible, would you? Share your thoughts.

Don't let the crown position put you off. I have a U-Boat with the crown at 9'oclock and it's honestly much more comfortable wearing in that position. I think that watch is prefect the way it is and I wouldn't change it at all. The fact is crown is on the other side makes it look different  and for me that's a good thing.

I guess this is a question of preference, but appreciate your input. 😊

I have also found it to be comfortable and easily adapted to on the wrist.  I think it’s a also easier to read the date through the stupid cyclops in this position.

If I'm not mistaken, you could turn it into a right handed watch by dropping the movement and flipping the dial (and chapter ring of we're going all the way).

I believe left handed watches (at least ones without subdials) are mechanically identical to right handers just with the dial upside down.

This. Any watchmaker can flip it for your fairly easily. Your rehaut would be upside down and slightly off,  it could be done for little money. However, at that point your warranty would largely be voided and good chance RSC would refuse further service of the piece.

Lastly, yes, in theory you could buy a Starbucks and a Batman and swap the bezel. That’s be an expensive swap since Rolex will not just sell you a bezel. I’m sure their are aftermarket ones, but again, you’d need to swap it back if you ever need to have the watch serviced.

Still going to be left handed.

You would also have to change the date ring. 😁

My whole question is why?

I'm here from Reddit and so I will refrain from sh!t posting.

You asked, "could you?". The answer is obviously yes. As long as you don't want the watch you bought. If you have no regard for the value of the watch or the historical reference of the design, yes.

I doubt you could talk an authorized watchmaker into to doing it.

I guess if you wanted the date at the 3 instead of the 9, you'd need a specific dial.

So toss out what I said.

Key takeaway, don't mod the left hand submariner! If you want the green bezel on a right hander, figure out a way to get an aftermarket one.

let me expand on my post. Switching a bezel or dial on a watch is not something I consider a major impact on the value of the watch as you can easily reverse the process. I am more interested if this is technically possible. for example you can’t swap the braclet of a Tudor BB58 with the one on the Pelagos as it won’t fit regardless it is the same size. It was created in a way that is not possible to fit it. Hence I was wondering if Rolex did something clever to make it impossible to swap these bezels.

Left / right is just a gimmick.

·

The only difference between left and right is the dial and date wheel otherwise its just worn upside down.

·

It would be far easier to get the old black beze gmt and put a green and black insert in it. Since the bezel could be changed back it would be worth far more than a Frankenstein sprite Should you decide to sell it.

Yeah, need a new dial and date ring. If you think about it, the only thing that happened is they rotated the movement 180 degrees which also rotates the crown.

But hey, why not buy two? Take the green bezel and put it on the right handed one! 😁

If you’re OK having the date jump at 12:30am. And, of course the rehaut would be upside down and, as for winding, clockwise becomes counter clockwise.

Date jump is hand placement and can be set to whatever time you want.

Yeah. I realized that after I posted. Lol But, the more I thought about it the less sense it made to me. To use a Sprite to create this fantasy. Swapping inserts is no big deal but. as someone asked already, why?

·

Take any watch flip it upside down and reprint the date wheel and dial logo to make a leftie. A lot of people are lefties.

·

Random AD tried to sell me one of these the other day (no I didnt buy it and flip it).

Thought about it though. Then I thought about maybe wearing it. The color is nice...But left rolex world to see if they had an FXD.

I’m a lefty, sort of ambidextrous, but I’ve always worn watches on my left. Trying my Sub on my right now...yep it’s weird. Maybe they wont make many and they’ll be collectible.  Wish they would make more of their current watches and left the new different watches out of the production line for a year.

Wow I said “left“ a lot
