There are definitely some elite military types that own Rolexes and the like. But I’d argue they are wearing GShocks, Seiko and Citizen divers for real work. Modern divers are wearing wrist computers. No one is wearing a Rolex as a beater anymore. I mean what did a Rolex diver cost in the 60s? You are right though. I wore Gshock or Suunto for field work. Most military dudes I saw in the GWOT wore Gshock. I’d never take a Rolex in that environment even if I could afford one. And by afford I mean easily buy a replacement if I needed to. I can’t BTW haha
No. If you truly got dirty while wearing your watch you’d realize taking it off to clean it separately is a thing. Watches get nasty and need to be scrubbed just like your body. Plus I have heard of instances where seals and gaskets have responded differently to heat and steam even though they were water resistant. Why risk it?
In the Seiko realm my unpopular opinion is the SKX coolness is overrrated at this point.
Seiko Solar and Citizen Eco-Drive get no love. I have one of each and I love putting them on knowing the time and date are still good to go from the last time I wore them.
I’d buy more than one!
Rolex GMT Master II Pepsi
Omega Seamaster 300 Heritage
Tag Heauer Carerra
Tudor Stainless Steel Diver Heritage
Tudor Steel Chrono with the Breitling movement
I’d rotate them all as beaters!
