Are they worth it?

This is probably a newbie questio, I’ve noticed some nice looking refurbished Seiko and Citizen watches on EBay. They seem really nice for the price what do I need to know about these? Is anyone familiar with them.  Thanks

My thought would be to avoid. You can get plenty of great Seiko 5s at around the $100 price point on eBay. for example

·

Do you have an example you can post a link to so I can take a look? There are a lot of Vintage Seikos out there that are over polished with knackered movements & fitted with after market dials & hands etc being passed off as nice original examples!

Used cheap watches are a bad buy unless you love the dial and know how to replace movements. New nh35 watches can be had for $100.00 and the movement alone is almost $60.00.

Yeah....not worth it. Never know what you're getting and how many different watches are in the refurb

·

From India? Stay away.

Refurbished #seiko turtle 🐢 and straight to my door via a Phillipines refurb outfit on eBay. USD$99.00. I would have been happy if it lasted a month, a year later still going strong keeping time at ±24ish seconds a day.

I think the key is to look for one that has a new crown and new case back - i.e., they've got in there, replaced the gaskets etc.

Yeah, I'd be inclined to go for an NH35 or NH36 build from AliExpress. Most places will sell dials, hands, cases, bezel inserts etc, so take a look first then send a message spelling out what build you want. For example.

That said - check my comment above in my #ebay #refurbished #seiko turtle.

There's a lot of cheap ones from India, but you really don't know what your getting and some of the movements can be real grotty, and you don't know what components are in them, how good they've been put together, lubrication has it been done. It's pot luck,so beware you might end up with a lemon. On the other hand there seems to be a popular modding community (certainly here in the UK) where they take old watches and refurb them, and they seem to have good feedback. So don't just buy the watch look at the sellers feedback, you'll pay more for one of those than an India special but you'll end up with a better watch.

Amazon is a little more expensive but worth it as with Aliexpress there is little warranty and next to no tech support. Invicta has better QC than Pagani. Any Chinese watch you get should have a Japanese movement.
