After my vintage collection was stolen in the early 90’s I stopped wearing a watch for about 15 years. My wife bought me a couple watches but it was the SKX009 that reignited my passion for the hobby about 5 years ago.

I am sorry for your loss! What a shame! I do have the 009 as well myself and it is a fab watch! Always had a soft spot for the pepsi colour scheme
Sadly enough, I don't have my first automatic watch anymore. It was a Komandirskie Tank Commander watch I picked up at a German flea market in the early 90s from what I assumed was a Polish seller. The watch lasted about two years, and it took me a while to try a mechanical watch again.
Definitely the SKX and the platform in general. It started me on a path of modding, then building, then to repair and then opened my eyes to everything else!
For me, it was my Rolex OP36 that I purchased in 2018 that started things off. I had been interested in watches for a while before that, but it wasn't until I purchased that piece and then joined a local watch enthusiast group that I started collecting.
Here's my Seiko SARG005. I was drawn to the fact that it looked like the love child between a Hamilton Khaki field watch and a Seiko Alpinist, which were the two watches that I was initially trying to decide between as my first automatic.

I must say, that's an impressive starter watch! :)

I never saw one of those before and got to say I want one now.

Sadly discontinued. Great bang for the buck, with the 6R15 movement and sapphire crystal. Paid about $350 for it back in the day but eBay and Chrono24 now have sellers asking $600+ for used models.
I started with an Eliot Brown Holden Professional field watch. It is quartz. My first automatic is my Seiko SARB035. Lovely watch; first step towards a snowflake GS.
I had a modified SKX007 but gave it to my grandson-in-law. I liked my Long Island Watch Islander better.

I'm SO sorry your Vintage collection got stolen 😤☹️...I hate that someone would do that.
But moving on to more positive things, I'm happy you haven't given up on your passion, that SKX looks great 👍!

I do have an islander myself (the skx 007 homage) i have fitted it with a high top domed crystal. Islanders are awsome!
For me it was a skeleton watch from a small French company when I was in my honeymoon in France. It rarely gets worn these days, but I still have fond memories of it and my wife really loves it

I did an eBay search sad that these awesome discontinued Seikos are so much on the used market. However, I'd pay $600 dollars for one of those over what people are asking for SKXs these days
SKX013 for my twig-like wrist...

I have one of those bad boys as well and to be honest, it fits a lot nicer!
Mine is an Orient Kamasu, which I'm wearing right now.
I've enjoyed it way more than I anticipated.

I was always drawn to the kamasu myself, but had an underwhelming experience with a ray 2 (noisy rotor, stiff as hell bezel) so I held off
Oris Aquis, still miss it, beautiful watch for the money.

Got this in 2018. First automatic. Its beautiful and the orange strap catches the eye. Love wearing it like this in thr spring and summer times.

Seiko 5 SNK809 for me!
Orient Bambino for me…no matter how deep I get into this hobby it still captures me with its timeless class!

Seiko 6309 started off this journey
Such a fun one! It can pair so well with so many straps! My first Seiko was my Seiko 5 with the beige dial.

It is an absolutely strap monster! It is always a little bit of a dilemma what to wear it on.
I do have a seiko 5 myself, (black field) they are awesome. Just a little addictive:)

Mine was an Invicta diver. I know, I know, but it was definitely a gateway drug!!

I have an invicta pro diver myself. a 37mm quartz and it got me into buying an skx013.
Invictas are fantastic value for money

Mine was a Tissot PRS 516. Although, I think it was a modded SKX009 that really got me hooked I still had will power after the Tissot.
Hah! Mine was the one with the black dial 😍 Amazing to see that It wasn‘t just my kickstart

This was my first automatic :-)
The other entry level mechanical Seiko for me.
