It's arrived!!!!!

A familiar thump sounded on the mat this morning. Finally after a few weeks my 70s Citizen India special had arrived. There's a part 2 to this check out my revision, thanks.

Image
  1. And special it is , a unique dial, no rubbish fauceted glass, titanium shroud long gone replaced by a 'real gold' one and a second hand that looks like looks like it's made from a paint can lid, that sticks out like the 2nd finger giving thr bird to all the purists out there(and the idiot who bought it). So far so good.
Image

Oh and the strap, that's got to go. It's not cow as most Indians don't do cow,but whatever it is its nasty.                                                                  A quick look inside and all looks OK,or at least origonal (spelt right)

Image

Me and the little fella are on our last night shift of the year and in between bagasse (because when bagasse is awake everyone's awake) chasing us around giving us jobs,we had a spare half hour to fit a new strap,it's a NOS fixo flex and it needed some fettling to shorten the lugs, and voila..

Image

Yes a fixo flex that notorious hair puller, good job I like smooth hairless wrists unlike the terribly hairy small child who modelled the watch for the advert. Unless Indian blokes have tiny wrists as it looked huge on the ad,which it isn't by a long way.                                                                         It's going to get worn for the next day or two and hopefully it will work something like and not need a trip to my watch repairer and I'll make the decision wether to keep or change the 2nd hand.

Image

Yes I can feel that 70s vibe pouring off it. Like Burt Reynolds or that famous 70s porn star Randy Long. Now the wife who's got no interest in watches (or 70s porn stars for that matter) even noticed it " what the hell is that"  ( so definitely a conversation starter) the usual 'discussion' took place and now she's the proud owner of a new TV for the bedroom(money gone from the watch war chest😢). So there you have it,I've acquired a fabulous unique piece of history ,a testament to the modding/ recycling culture of Indian horology, and why not ( I'll never learn)🤪

Congratulations! Beautiful watch

That is quite an address on the package. Have you looked it up in Street View?

You definitely have an eye for the unusual. That machine looks a lot more original than the typical newly cased old 8200 movement examplified by my Lucknow Special:

Image

The movement in yours seems to be slightly nicer quality than usual, according to my untrained eye. I determine this from the number of balls in the rotor bearing. My Seiko 7S26C only has five balls at that location.

I would be interested to see how yours runs on a timegrapher. Mine is surprisingly good, but it should not be a surprise given how many 8200 powered refurbs are on Ebay. I'm sure there are Indian folks who could service one of those blindfolded.

Is there space in your watchbox to store a bushy fake moustache and a brown turtle-neck to wear with the watch? 🥳

Just replying to myself, that address is used by a telecoms store:

Long linky

·

Interesting case shape and the gold and green marries perfectly. Congrats and good luck👍

·

"What the hell is that?" is a great opening line in any watch conversation.

·

Awesome watch! congratulations!

·

Now this one I like! Sweet colour scheme, and Fixo-Flex suits it perfectly.

·

My ‘82 Citizen 7 w/8200A also purchased from India. Nothing messed with, 100% original dial and case. The matte blue dial is just 🤌🏼 irl

It's not running good at all, keeps stopping. Which is a shame as it need the attention of my watch man. Quite disappointing as its obvious it's got a problem. Probably no good contacting the seller as they'd say transit damage. And yes I'd got my fake moustache ready for new years eve party to go with the watch, not now😢

Thanks,I'm going to need a bit of luck as it's running like a dog on 3 legs, going to have a proper look internally tonight, it'll probably be yet another job for my watch repairer.

Apologies to OP, but as neato as the watch is, I'm totes fascinated to finally have a glimpse of a source of the fabled Mumbai Specials thanks to the odd landmark-based address that you chose to disclose.

Brown turtleneck and fake mustache 🥸😂😂😂.  The dial is crazy, is it stone?

bummer on the bad movement, hopefully easy to sort out as it’s not anything super complicated

It’s a normal address!  Here’s my Vancouver address for example:

near the trees, across the street from guy with bonkers seasonal displays and beige color house, Canada.

See!  Too easy!  😁😉
