What Is Your Latest "No Purchase" Decission and Why

OK, we have all been there, we see a watch, we like it, we put it on a list and then wind up not buying one when presented the opportunity. Or we're in a store, see a watch at an outrageously small price but decide not to buy.

This happened to me yesterday. I have been facinated by the Mont Blanc Geosphere watch since they were introduced many moons ago and yesterday the opportunity to acquire one at a big discount happened. A reputable online merchant I have done a fair amount of business with was having an end of the season sale and there it was, at a price that was hard to resist given the additional savings during the sale. I decided to consider it the rest of the day, it was still there when we returned home but I eventually decided against getting it.

The why is pretty simple. Even though the discount was heavy, we were still talking $3k US and that is a chunk of change. It was black and while acceptable, I really prefered the other colors it is offered in. Yet another is that the turning hemispheres have lost much of their facination. Finally, the money could be put toward another watch or saved for a more expensive watch purchase in the future. I took the later option.

Anybody else care to share a story about NOT buying a watch?

Peace of mind is better than buyers remorse.

There will always be that watch you want now and the one your waiting on or saving for. For me, all watches make me happy so I usually get the one I like at the moment. So let it be written, so let it be done!

Latest one was the green titanium Hamilton khaki field 38mm. This was on my shortlist for a green dial watch. A very nice looking watch indeed in the flesh, I liked it a lot. One reason for not buying, I already have 2 Hamiltons, one of which is the ever popular KFM in black, so maybe a bit of aversion to repetition. The main reason though, not green enough! The titanium KFA is a shade of almost jade green, quite different to how it’s often shown in photographs, which in certain lights/angles can shift to grey or blue. I decided if I was going to have a green watch, it needed to be really GREEN!

Going to look at one of my other front runners in the flesh this weekend, the Zodiac Olympos Field, maybe that will pass the greenness test?

I tried on the new, black Pelagos FXD - a watch I wanted to love. It's a proper tool watch. I like the design and history. And I think Tudor provides great value.

But......wow, I can't abide those snowflake hands. I just can't stand them.

I had to pass.

Swatch blancpain. Decided to build on from scratch custom my self instead. It till be a serviceable movement 😅

I was seriously considering the Mido Decompression World timer.

Image

I wanted a mechanical watch with a gmt and worldtimer complications and found the colour scheme quite compelling. It wasn’t the price that turned me off as I eventually got the Raymond Weil Freelancer gmt Worldtimer instead, it’s just that I thought I’d tire of the Mido whereas I can’t see myself getting tired of this.

GS SBGN029... i tought i wouldnt by anymore watches this year... then... well... sold my batavi geograaf and bought a Junghans Meister Driver Chronoscope 🙈

Close to pull the trigger for the Zodiac Super Seawolf Ceramic - with a beautiful deep blue and black mix.

Image

Why not? Due to the ceramic construction, which is just a layer over a steel case structure, the lugs hang slighlty over the strap-attachement point (sorry, my native language isn‘t english). Therefore, the strap has an akward distance to the lugs. Small issue, but annoying me…

I got on the list for the Watermelon. I got up early for the day it went back on order. I opened up the website.

And ... I ... didn't... buy it

Why? Still couldn't tell you. I genuinely don't know. I like the watch. I've seen it in person on a fellow collector. It's cool. I just didn't want it. I've not managed to buy any of the pink/red dial watches. Maybe I don't really want a pink(ish) watch as much as I think I do

I love what Montblanc are doing with their watches! This particular model is gorgeous - I already have 2 Heritage models and they love wearing them.

Finally some post with Montblanc! I enjoy their Iced Sea divers that have this cool glacier texture dials in three colors. And Timewalkers - just something special about them. But never had a case so far when I would walk away. Normally I wait too long to miss opportunity :)

·

Movement was for me, I have three watches with same movement Seiko 4R36, so anything with the same movement, no matter how cool the design is, makes it a no go

I bought that Geosphere in black when it first came out (pre-owned). I love it as my go-to travel watch that's a bit upscale/casual and visually interesting. But...definitely am jealous of the green/bronze or even the blue version. Black was the only option when I purchased it, so I have no regrets. But, in your case, if black is not your first choice, then don't give in to temptation. You'll like it but wish you waited for what you really wanted.

I like their Iced Sea Divers also. Found a nice one on a trip, the dials are all unique due to the production process after all, but passed as I was hot after a Bell & Ross at the time and couldn't afford both.

Agreed I just bought my first—heritage gmt salmon/copper. Seeing these in the boutique I just was so impressed. Not everything is a win, but overall the direction they are heading is really impressive.

I like it when i see GMT/24-hour scales that use the sun and moon for 0 and 12.
