Think Thin

https://www.watchcrunch.com/news/publication-when-is-a-thin-watch-too-thin_94331

Saw this article and was reminded that I once equated thinness as a measure of design and engineering excellence.

So Watch Nerds, time to break out those calipers. What is the thinness mechanical watch you have, with measurements, and what do you think about thin watches?

For me, it’s the Nomos Tangente, coming in at svelte 7.5mm.

My thinnest is my Henry Archer Vesterhav at 10.69mm including the crystal.

I don't have calipers, but I think this has you beat. (1961 Hamilton, the watch is just thicker than the strap.)

Nicely done. This is what I see.

I saw the Girl Scout Cookies and my mind went blank. Now I need thin mints. 😩

·

I remember back in the day being forced to do back alley deals for those girl scout cookies when the addiction hit.

But you want to know about watches and thinness, right? Best I can do is Daniel Wellington which is 6mm too. I don't have any thin mechanical watches since it's 2024 not 1924.

My wife got upset I bought four boxes from the kids outside of Sam’s Club last weekend because the amount you get in the box is small for the price. I rationalized that they are children and we need to support the children. 😬

They have definitely shrunk. Just get her a new watch and she’ll be ok again. 🤣

I have one in mind for her for her birthday in October, but we will see! She didn’t complain about the cookies when she was eating them. 🙄

No, the DW has tiny magical elves in it which push the hands round with sorcery.

I'm house painting and gardening... and sleeping a lot... absolutely worn out all the time and barely capable of putting a sentence together.

The way to her heart is through her stomach 🤣

I can relate.

You sir, are disqualified 🤣

Take it easy man. Looking forward to the 2024 edition of the Tales…

I own from 9.38mm to 14.71. To me, it's not as great a difference as many would probably make it out to be. I find the 14.7 comfortable but generally like thinner. I think many put too much focus on thickness/thinness as a criteria before actually trying the watch. To each his own though.

I hear you. I look at diameter and L2L more than thickness. Most of my watches are 12-14mm.

Is that a mechanical or quartz? 4.5mm is really thin.

Truly thin mechanical watches are hard to find. Especially affordable good ones.

·

That's gorgeous. I found a Junghans dealer in my area. Saving up for a Junghans Meister Worldtimer.

How is this named ultra-thin at 10 mm thickness? https://www.chrono24.com/jaegerlecoultre/jaeger-lecoultre-master-ultra-thin-power-reserve-39mm--id24880595.htm

I mean come on JLC! Even Nomos makes like 40% thinner watch than what you claim to be categorized as ultra-thin. WTF?

Ultra thin…taking into account all the complications 🤣

There is no complications except for useless reserve de marche which is utterly unnecessary in an automatic watch. U never understood my watch when i bought my JLC Hometime 20 years ago and still don't understand it today. And I believe it's more expensive than the Hometime too...
