American Watches

Today is our Independence Day.

Was looking to wear a Made in the USA watch but found none in my collection. Settled for wearing a Orient Mako Pepsi.

What is the best American watch brand today and what are you rocking today? 🇺🇸🚀🎆🎇🌭

Post a picture and where can I get one?

·

I love my Vaer C3, but look forward to getting my hands on a Nodus some time soon!

Nodus watches are phenomenal. Gonna do a write-up on 'em soon enough. But, I currently have both the Avalon II and the Duality, and have never come across any micro-brand watches I felt gave more bang for the buck.

Just cast your net out on eBay. Elgin are everywhere. Just make sure that it is working. It will save immediate service costs. I have three (down from four). Elgin start using foreign movements in its watches in its basic models in the early 1960's. They ceased production finally in the United States in 1968.

Weiss, on my list to get around to....

·

Hey Pilgrim, Raven watches down yonder Kansas!! I'm rocking the Islander Bayport today

Have a Weiss. Wouldn’t mind getting an RGM at some point.

Ball and Hamilton, although not made in USA anymore, have some great history as American brands.

I’m on vacation at the moment, but THIS is the ultimate July 4 watch IMO:

For actual "Made in America" I'd say RGM .

For "assembled in America" with imported parts-take your pick.

Best American-based brand-Timex. (since 1854 in one form or another)

Cool watch. Didn’t even think about Islander. There’s a growing cult following in WC. Unique dials and value proposition.

I have a Hammy but don’t really consider that American anymore. Then again, American means different things to different people. That’s what makes us great! 😂

That's the dumb part of it all. It costs too much to make stuff in the US and puts good companies out of business

If you’re not making movements at scale, it’s extremely expensive. Weiss does some videos of the process and the machines and the time/labor/skill necessary. It’s a lot to invest and if people aren’t going to buy it, then it isn’t worth the effort. Or he’s gotta design a more desirable product. Either way, the examples he did produce are awsome and hopefully he’ll make more.

Totally agree. It’s just a shame.

Sucks everyone plays by different rules to get an advantages. Do the big boys like Rolex or Swatch or LVMH do what you describe?

Very few companies disclose their percentages.

Rolex says nothing 🤫

Horage gives total transparency. Moser is known as totally Swiss regularly pokes fun at other ‘Swiss watches’ for not being very Swiss.

Some other other brands like Chopard, and UN give some transparency and Code41 is a swiss brand formed around the idea of transparency and chides companies that don’t.

I think very generally- the cheaper a ‘made Swiss’ watch is, the larger the percentage of Chinese manufacturing is. But profit margin varies wildly between companies so even that isn’t totally reliable.

I'm going with a Resco Patriot Gen II. I own and love a Gen One Patriot. The Resco Patriot Gen One was the watch of the American Sniper... doesn't get more 'Merican than that. Happy Birthday USA & Semper Fi Brothers!

The Nodus owners are great guys. I have several of their watches and am very pleased with them. They keep getting better and better.

I’m fishing for one as we speak 🤣

There are many American brands I wish the poll could be expanded

Sangin is on my short list. The owner keeps teasing/hinting about a Draper Kauffman (basically father of American EOD) version but no word yet.

I might not wait, his Neptune Diver ticks a lot of boxes.

Im pretty bummed that they are sold exclusively in the US, so with shipping and taxes they just become to expensive when they arrive here in Denmark. Hope to vacation to the US soon and hopefully that coincides with a cool release 😅
