HELP WANTED

So Im completely new to the watch scene and was wondering if any of you fine gents/ladies could recommend good watches/brands to look into to purchase my first watch. Preferably under 2k and something that won't loose too much value when bought. Any help/ information would be greatly appreciated!

Hello and welcome 👍

Depends if you are looking for a diver, or dress watch, field or chronograph.

Any style you like more than others ???

A Hamilton khaki mechanical would be a good choice for around £545

Christopher Ward should definitely be on your list of watches to look at.

·

I'm biased into chronos and AT solar, but...

I'd say Citizen makes really good ones... 😂

I would suggest not to buy anything, but try everything. If you can, visit watch stores, figure out what you like more, like less or completely hate. With 2K budget you have a lot of choices, both, mechanical and good quartz. I would spend at least 6 month just learning and researching, and then decide.

Also, do not rely on someone else's advice. Our tastes are all different, and what I like may not be what you like. Buy only what you like. When I was buying my first luxury watch, I found what I liked, and then tried to find as much info about that watch trying to figure out what was wrong with my selection. I could not find anything bad about my watch, so I got it.

Finally, from value retention point of view, it is like buying a car. It looses value as soon as you pay for it.

Good luck.

Longines oris sinn nomos seiko

I'll take that advice onboard! Thank you. ✌️

Spend £1900 on booze and fun and spend the last £100 on buying a Duro and modding it! 😉🤣😂🤣😂

Or invest your £2000 in C Ward they make some great pieces

That's actually quite sound advice. I think I will have to make a trip around a few watch stores and just get a feeling like you say. I also have to do alot of research as I don't know much about anything currently! 😂.

In regards to taste I think you're right. I just didn't know if there were particular styles or watches that where more popular than others?

I kinda guess that with the value side of things but wanted to make sure!

Thank you for the lengthy reply. I appreciate the effort!

Find a style that you like visually (dress, dive, field, pilot, chrono, sport) and buy some entry level (~250ish$) watch in that style that you like the looks of.

Wear it for some time, when you start to become tired of it, buy another strap (there are many styles to choose from). Or buy a strap right away, it's not like they cost a lot of money.

After wearing the watch for some time, you'll know better what you want and what you don't want and then you can spend your 2k more reasonably.

Do not look at what is popular today. What is popular today may not be in popular next year, or next month. For 2K you are buying something that you will probably keep a long time, through many popularity cycles. Look for something that you would enjoy, regardless of opinions of others.

Just because you have a budget of 2K, doesn't mean you have to spend it on one watch. You could have many?

You may or may not get the best experience by owning one watch at the top of your budget, compared to

having a few cheaper watches of different genres.

The decision is yours. 👍

Try Ball watches, very good brand and special gass lume in most of the watches. Makes them special at night viewing 😀

·

Another suggestion is to look a Seiko watches, they are all very high and durable quality and they have a very wide range of great watches.
