What do you think of modern Omega?

  • I absolutely love my vintage Beefy Lugs Seamaster, I’m not so much a fan of many of the modern aesthetic of the new ones. I wish they would make an absolute revival one like Zenith do, with all the modern benefits. Just my thought of the day. What do you think of modern re makes of vintage pieces?

They certainly seem to be becoming more prevalent so your wish may well come to pass.

I don’t have a huge problem with the manufacturers raiding their back catalogues and offering us reissues so long as they are priced fairly and it’s not the only game in town.

It does feel a little bit as though some are doing this a little too much but maybe that’s a phase that will pass - like GMTs, please pass!

I absolutely love remakes of vintage watches.

Out of my 10 modern Swiss watches 5 could be considered remakes of vintage watches.

Very nice, I like the vintage Seamasters & Constellations from the 1950s. Omega did make a reissue of the Seamaster a few years ago, link below

Yes I agree. I think it would be nice to do it as a limited edition or something like that. I don’t own a gmt, but I think it’s a very useful complication for many. I’m so bad at maths, the idea of being able to see the time zones is appealing 😂

Modern Omega are wonderful.

15,000 gauss magnetic resistance.

That’s amazing.

Wow that’s great. I have the new Jack Mason Ellum dress watch which is inspired by a vintage watch I’ve been trying out and I absolutely love that I don’t have to worry about knocking it or being in the rain. So cool you have so many 👏🏻

Yes there’s definitely no quibble there about their amazing movements. It’s more an aesthetic to big for me.

I have them for exactly the same reason.

I have vintage watches too but I find myself babying them alot since parts are really hard to come by if something does go wrong.

Pretty much all of the modern Omega that appeals to me are re-issues or designs that haven't changed for decades (Speedie).

There's something 'over cooked' about the design of most of the current catalogue I reckon. Shame - the movements are best in class.

🤷🏻

I’m inclined to agree with you ❤️

That's my main issue with modern Omegas. They are just too large nowadays and they don't offer them in smaller sizes like they did through the 90s and 00s. Because of this most of my Omega purchases have been neovintage because they were offered in 36-38mm.

·

I love modern Omega design aesthetics - but not a fan that the design updates, new dial options, and best tech go into their larger cased models first. It took like 5 years to get a green dial AT 38mm, and those still have the 8800 movements and not the 8900.

·

Remakes of vintage watches with a contemporary twist is great. I love the tag Heur domed crystal chronograph (is that how it's called?) as great example of that approach.

That Omega of yours is a beauty! 😻

Ah that’s interesting, but not surprising. It annoys about many ‘ladies’ watches is the lack of thought that sometimes go into the movement. Hopefully things are changing though!

My favorite modern Omega is the Constellation Globemaster Annual Calendar. It gives off vintage vibes with its pie pan dial and bezel. Zenith killed it with their Revival too.

·

I love it, beautiful old watches are my weakness too.

I hear you and that is one gorgeous vintage omega. Congrats. But when you put them together that modern interpretation just falls a little short for me. There’s just something so opulent about your one and austere about the modern one and it’s not the material. Does that make sense?

They are definately not the same. But for me a 1 to 1 copy isn’t 100% either. I’m a big fan of the Constellation Pie Pan. The 168.005 is a favourite. But I don’t think I would appreciate a modern clone. Here I think the modern Globemaster is a great take. However I have to admit it was an aquired taste for me.

Another sample where I think a modern take is a plus is the GMT Pepsi. I totally adore the vibrant blue and red colors on the aluminium bezel on a vintage one. To me those vibrant colors would look out of place on the present version.

Wow that would be amazing. 🤩

Haha probably not going to happen so I look at Breitling and soon Zenith for my triple calendar moonphase fix! ❤️

Don't forget the 1948 Seamaster Coaxial from the heritage collection

Beautiful watch!

·

💯 I’d buy a modern revival of that watch in a second. I’d buy a vintage Seamaster if it wasn’t for me being a chicken about the Radium.

Yes that’s true and it lights up really well too!

the new Omegas are oversized and overpriced in my humble opinion … just oposite to this timeless piece

I much prefer Sapphire although harder to photograph. I also love a good open caseback ❤️

Then its kind of a good thing I don’t know how to take a good photo? Haha! 😅
