"Snowflake" hands before Tudor!

Tudor "Snowflake"hands first appeared circa 1968, some say as early as 1967. Nevertheless, Aiguilla made the design for other brands before they became "proprietary" by Tudor/Rolex. Here is an example circa 1960-1965.

That is some crazy interesting watch history sir!! I think the minute had with the snowflake is a little odd, but that's probably because I'm so used to the Tudor Hour hand... really cool watch. Is that yours?

Yes, it's the most recent piece I just added to my very eclectic collection โŒš๐Ÿ˜…๐Ÿ˜Š๐Ÿ˜€! Unknown, but true ๐Ÿ’ฏ๐Ÿ‘.

The watch looks great. Congratulation ๐ŸŽ‰ Very toolie with the natural wear๐Ÿ‘Œ

Interesting history and totally unsurprising that Rolex/Tudor would plagiarize someone else's hand design. ย  Honestly I don't find the Snowflake hand to be attractive. ย Compare it to a Grand Seiko hand or a Breguet hand and it has no style. ย

Good stuff, good to hear from you.

At first I was happy, as this is the worst part of Tudor and it's not really their fault. But then I realized that the bellend on the longer minute hand doesn't look as awful.ย

So like the only point in this is glaring differentiation between the two hands, right?

Consider me informed ๐Ÿฅณ

Tudor has their "Snowflake" on the hour and running seconds. Here only in the minute hand wich is somewhat distinct and different ๐Ÿ˜Š. Just one of those quirks in the Watch World ๐ŸŒŽ๐Ÿ˜ƒโŒš.

Very cool. Congrats on the pick-up. Kind of debunks the story that Tudor came up with the snowflake at request of the Marine Nationale to improve legibility. But back then everyone used the same suppliers for parts so not surprising the design appeared elsewhere. Also makes more sense on a diver to use it on the minute hand for ease of tracking against the bezel.ย

Exactly, it couldn't be more simple ๐Ÿ‘. Thanks for the great coment Bro ๐Ÿ’ช๐Ÿ’ฏ. That way we all keep on learning ๐Ÿ˜€!

Love it!!!!

Next fancy Tudor I see I will complement the owner on having a good quality homage. ๐Ÿ˜‚

Wow. I had no idea about this. Thanks for sharing and debunking this Tudor myth.ย

Seeing as Tudor is the shield logo, I imagine where a world where one hand is a sword and one hand is a shield.

Or at least keep the rose logo and have the rose rather than a blocky squre.

Creative use of the descriptive " bellend". In England that's a familiar insult!

Very interesting. The more I learn about our hobby the more I realise that nearly every watchmaker has plagiarised design at some point or other!
