Ollech & Wajs Original Jenny Caribbean re-release

I just got this news letter from Ollech & Wajs. They are re-releasing the Caribbean 1000 with it's Original Vintage esthetics just like when they first produced it in 1964 with Jenny.

I own an original Philip Watch Vintage example. It's not an innexpensive watch by any means but the Vintage OW Caribbean's really fetch a premium price. If this re-issue stays among the price range of my OW P-104 or the Ocean Graph I would really consider buying it. This, taking into account that so far OW has given us really well built and robust Watches.

What do you guys think, interested 😃?

Yes sir! That makes two of us 😃💪💯⌚. They're talking about a whole new line up of models as well. I think OW is gonna surprise us with some great releases!

I’ve always had my eye on them and I really look forward to seeing what they come up with.

I don't know what to make of the angling of the inside of the lugs.

I haven’t seen anything like that before… I think I like it. 😆

Those are actually the signature lugs of a Vintage Caribbean 1000 model. It was all part of Jenny's brilliant monoblock case design to be able to withstand 1000m of water depth pressure. It was the first watch to ever achieve that in 1964 under the OW brand name along with the Sandoz Baby Panerai.

Here is my 1968 example under the Phillip Watch brand name. The case was constructed by Jenny.

If anyone can explain how that helps with this, please do. I understand minimizing stress concentrations in areas of sudden thickness transition, but usually that's handled by blending with a radius.

Huge fan of the Jenny and related Caribbean references - see my previous thread here - Let's Talk About The Caribbean!

I really like the vintage O&W references. However, the modern O&W references don't stand up as well.

I had a very bad experience with my first acquisition of a modern O&W - Ocean Graph (Tribute to 1968 Ocean Graph). While the watch itself is fine and reasonably well made, the BOR bracelet was terrible - it was worse than an Aliexpress bracelet. Hopefully, they have found another Chinese factory to supply them with better bracelets or I would suggest purchasing the watch on a rubber strap instead.

It's very simple really. It was 1964 (the funkier the better 😂) and they decided to put shorter trapezoidal lugs on the case for them not to bend under presure. Know it's just a fun quickly looking desireble factor on the most collectable Caribbeans 😀 .

Well, they have not said anything about these being a limited edition. My guess is as good as any, but I think they will become a regular production run. Your best bet is to subcribe to their newsletter on the official website and follow them on IG for any updates 👍.
